QC Family Tree

QC Family Tree QC Family Tree uses cultural organizing to build community for the common good.

Since 2005, QC Family Tree has been working for justice from the corner of Parkway and Tuckaseegee in west Charlotte. We use the tools and methods of cultural organizing to build power within Black communities, primarily the Enderly Park neighborhood where we are located. We use cultural organizing to work with white congregations and other community organizations to disrupt and dismantle white supremacy.

🌿What if part of living well is simply…making more room for creativity? There's so much research out there encouraging us to think of wellness differently.

Studies have linked cultural engagement and art-making with healthy aging, lower loneliness, cognitive health, stress reduction, and quality of life.

Just like we need food and shelter, we also need to move, make, express, learn, and belong. That’s the thinking behind We Well.

On Saturday, October 17, from 1–7pm, QC Family Tree and Here for Good Business Cooperative are bringing artists, wellness practitioners, medical professionals, and community together at The Pauline Tea-Bar Apothecary for a one-day exploration of wellness in all its forms.

Expect:
- Tea meditation
- Yoga + breathwork
- Nutrition conversation
- Arts-based workshops
- Community panel discussion
- Somatic healing + Afro-Venezuelan dance
❤️ And plenty of opportunities to connect

Explore practical ways to care for your physical, mental, emotional, social, and creative wellness.

'Joy as Resistance' is officially open at The Arts Factory. Thanks to all who stopped by for opening night! We wanted to share a piece that really jumped off the wall for us.

Artist Tiara Fennell () painted an energetic ballroom scene, capturing a moment when the audience is joyfully worked up into a frenzy of excitement as the performers amaze and delight.

"Ballroom culture is in my opinion one of the best examples of pure joy, the freedom to bring your best self in a community that not only will accept you but also hype you up."

🏡 STATUS UPDATE! Since 2025, QC Family Tree has been building a coordinated effort to support artists, entrepreneurs, and small businesses through , funded by a grant from the City of Charlotte.

We've hosted free monthly business workshops, monthly art markets and merchant meetings, initiated a mural apprenticeship program, and grown the Rhizome Coalition to 40 members.

In August, we partnered with to create an Art Trail you can explore anytime. And later this month, we're hosting a FREE creative wellness conference in the corridor!

The two-year grant that supported all of this work comes to a close December 2026. What we're dreaming of next can only happen with your help. Donate today through the link in our bio.

🚌 We're excited to introduce as our Fall 2026 Transit Ambassador! Evie, a QC Family Tree Culture Bearer Residency alum, will bring accessible, timely information about public transportation to the places where folks already gather along the Freedom-Wilkinson Corridor.

In October + November, Evie will engage residents through Merchant Meetings, Rhizome Arts Markets, Free Space Studios, the Culture Bearer Residency showcase, and the We Well Arts & Wellness Conference.

⭐ He will share info about Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority (MPTA) decisions, upcoming public meetings, and opportunities for residents to provide input, while also inviting community members to share their experiences and perspectives about public transportation.

The goal is to make transit info more accessible and relevant by connecting it to everyday community life, work, and neighborhood priorities. This program is supported by Sustain Charlotte!

⭐ MEET A CULTURE BEARER! Chantel Kennedy () is a Charlotte based visual artist whose work spans acrylic painting on canvas, murals, and community-centered art. A self-taught artist, she uses visual art as a powerful form of storytelling and self-expression, creating work that can be humorous, thought-provoking, bold, unconventional, and at times controversial.

Her paintings range from abstract works with comical and provocative titles to pieces celebrating the richness and beauty of Black skin tones, as well as blacklight and glow-in-the-dark paintings. She embraces the freedom to be bold, odd, unexpected, and unapologetically herself. Through her art and community work, she strives to communicate what words sometimes cannot—and to use her creativity as a force for connection, healing, and positive change.

📆 Your first chance to connect with the Culture Bearers will be Monday, September 28 for Free Space Studios. This is a casual gathering at 2916 Parkway Ave to meet the artists face-to-face and see how they’ve settled in during their first few weeks. Come out and say hello!

Have you had a chance to check out the NEW Freedom-Wilkinson Art Trail yet from ? We partnered with them to highlight some of the beautiful artwork in our area.

🚘 Wilkinson Boulevard was actually North Carolina’s first paved four-lane highway, built to move people and commerce west from Charlotte.

“For a long time, people have experienced this corridor from behind a windshield,” said Helms Jarrell, Director of QC Family Tree. We want to give them a reason to get curious about what’s on the other side of the glass.”

☕ One of our favorite stops? The goddess "Tealona" painted by artist adorns the front of the , bringing color, peace and love to all who see her.
