Talk about a birthday gift!

We recently helped Gequavious move into his new home just in time for his 25th birthday!

Torrey and Liyah made sure his first birthday in his new place was extra special by bringing over a cake to celebrate.

But the thing Gequavious is most excited about?

Being reunified with his child now that he has a place to call home.

Because a move-in is about so much more than four walls and a set of keys. It’s about stability. Family. Possibility. And getting the opportunity to build the life you’ve been working toward.

Two sets of keys.
Two new beginnings.

Mr. Steven had been experiencing homelessness since 2023. Mr. John had been unhoused since 2021.

Now, they’re BOTH indoors.

They have a safe place to call home and are excited for everything this new chapter can bring.

We recently celebrated two neighbors coming home!

One is a veteran in his 70s who was living in his truck. The other is a man in his 30s who has experienced episodes of homelessness for years. Today, they each have a place to call their own.

These moments remind us that homelessness is not a personal failure—it's a housing crisis. And with the right support, partnership, and persistence, housing is possible.

Every set of keys represents countless hours of outreach, relationship-building, housing navigation, and collaboration with our community partners. Most importantly - a new beginning!

Having clean, properly fitting clothing may seem like a small thing, but it can make a huge difference for someone preparing for work, attending appointments, moving into housing, or simply navigating another day with dignity.

Thrilled to be a WIF partner!

This week, we're wrapping up our 2025-2026 Nonprofit Partner Spotlight with our Health Opportunity Grant Recipient Hearts For The Invisible CLT (HFTICC).

HFTICC serves individuals and families experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. As one of the most economically segregated cities in the US, Charlotte’s lack of affordable housing presents an urgent crisis for many in need. HFTICC exists to address these needs by meeting people where they are through trauma-informed, housing-first outreach programs.

HFTICC’s Street Outreach program is designed to engage with individuals and families experiences unsheltered homelessness through consistent, compassionate contact that builds trust and offers immediate relief. They provide supplies, food and survival gear while working to connect clients with emergency shelters and support transitions to permanent housing.

The WIF Opportunity Grant will allow HFTICC to quickly and nimbly respond to emerging community needs and will support investments into the organizations infrastructure.

After several years of living outside, Ms. Yvette is finally home.

She's super excited to have a place of her own and to finally be out of the heat.
