The 2023 attracted close to 100 Charlotteans. Walkers enjoyed the beautiful UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens, an evening stroll in the Elizabeth Neighborhood - Charlotte, a visit to some of the City's pollinator gardens, and a tour of the University City area (including the North Tryon side of the UNC Charlotte campus). Next year's goal is to increase the number of walks to at least 15.

City Walks will take place May 3-6, 2023, and will be a scaled back version with fewer walks as we transition to new walk management. We want to thank Angelique Gaines from urbanCORE’s, Urban Institute at UNC Charlotte, for doing such an amazing job over the past five years, and pledge to make her proud! Our goal is to be back to full walk capacity in the spring of 2024.

Important walks update: As of now, every spot on every walk has been reserved. We are amazed by the amount of demand - after two years away, we weren't sure what the appetite would be for the return of in-person City Walks. Clearly, this program is something the community highly values. We are hoping to add a few more walks, and we'll announce them here in the coming days. Thanks so much for your support, and see you in a few days when the walks start!

Groups will explore the vibrant history of North Charlotte and NoDa with local tour guides. We will visit three textile mills, walk through two distinct and largely intact mill villages, view local art and several large murals, and hear about some of the colorful neighbors from NoDa.

Walk of the day: Elizabeth.

Explore the bungalow side streets of this early streetcar neighborhood, home to the Belk department store family and nationally famed author Harry Golden, as well as Charlotte’s first city-owned park. Led by community historian Dr. Tom Hanchett, whose Charlotte history book, SORTING OUT THE NEW SOUTH CITY, is now out in its second edition. Afterward, if you like, enjoy dinner on your own at Elizabeth restaurants such as Sabor, Fig Tree or The Crunkleton.
