On Thursday, September 10, Home Base and Project 351 are seeking community support to help sort donations in advance of our annual 9/11 Service Project presented by Hanscom Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation.

The two shifts will take place at Hood Park from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.

Congratulations to Ross Zafonte, DO, on his appointment as interim dean of the Mizzou School of Medicine!

Dr. Zafonte — who also serves as our national director for traumatic brain injury — is a founding faculty member of Home Base and has played an integral role in the development and success of clinical and research operations, particularly within our brain injury program, since 2009.

In a new study from Mass General Brigham, Boston University and the Concussion & CTE Foundation — led by Daniel Daneshvar, MD, PhD, Chief of Brain Health at Home Base — researchers found evidence that at least 1 in 4 former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) at the time of their death, a much higher prevalence compared to the general population.

🏌️ Last month, Ryan Vanderweit, Director of the Home Base Warrior Health and Fitness (WHF) Program, was invited to speak to Veterans participating in PGA HOPE, which changes and saves the lives of Veterans and Service Members through the power of golf.

He gave an overview of Home Base, with a primary focus on WHF, then led Veterans through golf-specific mobility exercises at Patriot Golf Course, located on the grounds of the Bedford Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Following the event, Ryan was invited to return for future events to speak with new Veteran participants.
