Wednesday morning, we were pleased to welcome fellow Rotarian Nicole Stewart as our featured speaker!

Nicole gave an informative and timely presentation on navigating the often-confusing world of health insurance. She helped members think through important questions, such as how deductibles, copays, coverage needs, and personal budgets can affect the best insurance choice for an individual or family.

As a licensed South Carolina insurance agent specializing in health, life, and Medicare insurance solutions, Nicole works with self-employed professionals, small-business owners, and individuals to identify their unique needs and explore coverage options that fit their circumstances.

With healthcare enrollment deadlines approaching in November, Nicole’s presentation was an especially valuable reminder that understanding your choices now can help prevent costly mistakes later.

Thank you, Nicole, for sharing your knowledge with our Rotary family and helping make a complicated topic easier to understand!

Every duck adopted in the Charleston Duck Race helps fuel real, life-changing work right here in our community. Organized entirely by volunteers, this annual event is all about bringing neighbors together to raise vital funds for local non-profits making a difference across the Charleston area. To everyone who adopted a duck, sponsored, or cheered us on: a huge thank you! This is where your support directly goes.

For today's spotlight, we are thrilled to recognize Yo Art.

Yo Art works directly with local schools to bring innovative media arts programs to students who might not otherwise have access to them. By pairing creative technology with hands-on learning, they help kids build confidence, learn new digital skills, and express themselves through photography, coding, filmmaking, and design.

Thank you to the incredible team at Yo Art for inspiring our local students and opening doors to creative futures. We are so proud to support your mission!

Every duck adopted in the Charleston Duck Race helps fuel real, life-changing work right here in our community. Organized entirely by volunteers, this event is all about bringing people together to raise funds for local organizations making a difference every single day.

For this first spotlight, we want to recognize The Swing.

The Swing is dedicated to supporting individuals and families navigating a breast cancer diagnosis. Their mission focuses on providing critical resources, direct support, and a compassionate network when patients and caregivers need it most.

Thank you to the team at The Swing for your incredible dedication and tireless work to bring hope, care, and practical help to our neighbors facing breast cancer. We are proud to support your mission!

And thank all of YOU for supporting our Charleston Duck Race!

At the Daniel Island Rotary Club, the impact of our Duck Race extends far beyond race day.

Thanks to the generosity from duck adoptions, sponsors and supporters, Rotary fundraising dollars were put to work this year to support students at Cainhoy Elementary School. Working directly from teacher-provided school supply lists, we purchased every required school supply, backpack, and classroom item for all 197 students attending the school.

But our support didn't stop with writing a check. On Friday, Daniel Island Rotarians rolled up their sleeves and spent the day packing backpacks and organizing supplies to ensure every student starts the school year equipped and ready to learn. We know that back-to-school expenses can place a significant burden on many families. By providing these supplies, we hope to ease that burden and help ensure that every child walks into the classroom with the tools they need to succeed from day one.

This is what Rotary is all about: neighbors helping neighbors, turning fundraising dollars into meaningful community impact, and creating opportunities for local students to thrive.

Thank you to everyone who supports our Duck Race and makes projects like this possible. Together, we're making a difference all year long.

Fantastic meeting at the Rotary Club of Daniel Island Wednesday morning! A huge thank you to Allison Lanford and Leigh Thomason for sharing how Assisted Living Locators of Charleston helps local families navigate the often-overwhelming world of senior care.

Finding the right balance of comfort, dignity, and budget for a loved one is a journey no family should have to walk alone. Whether looking at independent living, assisted living, or memory care across the Lowcountry, having compassionate local advisors to narrow down the choices makes all the difference.

Where YOUR Duck Race Money Goes!

Thanks to your incredible support, the Rotary Club of Daniel Island is thrilled to donate $1,000 to the Philip Simmons School Youth Sports Program. A huge thank you to Tempest Shaw for joining us today to accept the check on behalf of the program!

This is exactly what our tradition is all about, transforming thousands of racing rubber ducks into real, impactful support for local youth programs and charities that strengthen our community. By investing in our students and youth sports, we ensure that local kids have access to healthy activities, valuable teamwork experiences, and positive mentorship.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who adopts a duck and backs our mission, your generosity makes a difference!

WHAT WE DO: Building Better Communities & Changing Lives!

Ever wonder what those "duck race folks" are up to when they aren't launching thousands of yellow rubber ducks into the river?

Founded in 2001, the Rotary Club of Daniel Island is a dedicated service and fellowship organization focused entirely on building a stronger community and changing lives right here in the Lowcountry. We are proud to be part of Rotary International, the world’s leading service organization with over 1.2 million members worldwide!

When you see us out and about, our impact usually falls into three major buckets:

• Community Service: From building playgrounds to providing hunger relief, we roll up our sleeves for hands-on projects that make a local footprint.
• Fellowship: We believe in doing good while having fun! Our club is a tight-knit network of neighbors and business leaders who share a passion for giving back.
• Our Speaker Series: For over a decade, we’ve loved bringing the community together for dynamic, engaging, and educational quarterly speaker events.

Through the phenomenal success of our annual Charity Duck Race, we’ve been able to funnel millions of dollars into dozens of local charities, fund vital student scholarships, and support life-changing Rotary initiatives around the globe.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN JOING THE CELEBRATION

From humble pretzel sales to millions raised for "Service Above Self," the Rotary Club of Daniel Island is officially celebrating 25 Years of Impact!

What started with informal breakfast chats and building playgrounds has blossomed into a force for good. We’ve supported hunger relief, literacy, health, and family support, raising a staggering $3 million, thanks, in huge part, to our famous little yellow friends from the Charleston Duck Race!

Today, with nearly 100 passionate members and a new sister club, we’re bigger and better than ever. We're still meeting on Wednesday mornings (check out our new lunch option, too!) and continuing to leave our footprint on Daniel Island and across the globe.

To say THANK YOU to the community that made all this possible, the "duck race folks" at the Duck Race Club are giving back with two special Silver Anniversary Grants:

$2,500 Area Charity Grant: Any DI resident can nominate a local charity (serving zips 29492 or 29450) to receive the funds.
$250 Student Service Project Grant: Know an ambitious DI kid under 16? They can win funding to bring their own hometown service project to life!

Applications are open NOW. Learn more and apply here: https://dirotary.org/rcdi25th/

Let's make some magic happen, together.

A Lowcountry Legacy: How Bart Jackson Built a $3 Million Duck Empire!

We're taking you behind the scenes of how the Daniel Island Rotary Club became known as "The Duck Race Club." It all started back in 2005 with our legendary club member, Bart Jackson, and a truly wild idea.

Can you imagine the logistic puzzle? Bart and the early team had to figure out everything on the fly. From purchasing 10,000 little yellow ducks to solving the mechanics of the iconic Wando Bridge drop. They even spent countless hours personally selling adoptions outside Publix!

What began as a crazy idea has evolved over 20 years into the massive Charleston Duck Race we celebrate today, with participating clubs changing annually to grow the impact.

But here’s the best part: Those fun little yellow ducks have serious purpose. Since inception, this race has raised a staggering $3 million for charity. Every adoption fee goes directly to supporting health and wellness, hunger relief, housing, children, and education initiatives both in our Lowcountry community and around the world.

Thank you to everyone who has ever adopted a duck or volunteered their time. You are part of this incredible story.

Here's to many more years of racing!
