In the NICU life becomes about the simple things… like signs you can hang on your door. Not only do the amazing nurses care for these babies they are also incredibly talented in the art department. They makes sure every baby has a name banner on their door. The longer you are there the more you collect. By the time we left McCartney’s door was covered. I have kept each of these signs. Mighty Mac Gives Back Foundation!!

We are so excited to share some big news! We have created a 501(c)3 in honor of McCartney. It is called the Mighty Mac Gives Back Foundation. The purpose of this foundation is to meet the immediate needs of the NICU at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Childrens Hospital, to raise awareness for NICU life and to educate friends and family on what “living” in the NICU is like. The long term goals would be to give a yearly scholarship to a graduating high school student who was born prematurely and spent their “firsts” in the NICU, to offer grants to NICU parents who are unable to work and need to pay bills. These are just some of the preliminary pieces of our vision and we know the Lord can do MIGHTY things so we are walking in faith as we give back to those who saved McCartney’s life and helped push us forward each day. Attached you will find an Amazon wishlist that Ashley, a NICU nurse manager at MUSC, and I have put together. These are immediate needs of the NICU. The funding for “extras” that improve NICU life so much is lacking so the nurses often pay for these things out of their pockets and hearts.

Let’s work together to bless and give back to incredibly deserving people. If you order right off the registry it will be shipped directly to our house. Our family will then personally hand deliver all of the gifts and a check from the royalties of the Mighty Mac book. Our goal is to do this for the NICU every year in July. July was when McCartney was finally discharged and what an amazing way to honor that time. If you feel led to give monetarily we are in the process of setting up a bank account for the foundation and a Venmo account as well.
