This past Saturday, the Rice Rivers Center and the James River Association kicked off an exciting restoration project with a Living Shoreline Charrette. Supported by the Virginia Environmental Endowment, this partnership will install 300 linear feet of living shoreline to revitalize the James River ecosystem. The event brought together faculty, students, and community partners to dive into nature-based restoration strategies and collaborative design discussions.

Step into our living laboratory, where the river is the instructor and every lesson comes to life!

This Giving Day, we’re focused on a major hurdle: transportation. We need a new vehicle to bridge the gap between campus and the Rice Rivers Center. Right now, limited travel options are the only thing keeping our students from the vital, hands-on experience they need to lead in the workforce.

By donating, you aren’t just buying wheels—you’re providing access to innovation by getting students out of the lecture hall and into the field. You’re ensuring career readiness by equipping them with the technical skills required for the modern workforce, and creating opportunity for all by removing the transportation barrier so every student can participate in vital research.

Help us get their boots in the mud and their careers on the move. Let’s get the next generation of scientists on the road to success!
