Richmond Gem & Mineral Society The Richmond Gem & Mineral Society is a non-profit organization. The club welcomes new members including kids! What kid hasn't been fascinated with rocks?

The Richmond Gem & Mineral Society serves the Richmond Metro and surrounding counties and is open to anyone with an interest in rocks, minerals, gems, fossils, lapidary, geology and other related fields. The club offers a place where like-minded individuals can gather to share knowledge, learn and enjoy "rock talk." There is time for fellowship prior to the start of the meeting where one can see rock and fossil specimens members have collected, and lapidary pieces. Social time is followed by a short business meeting, a guest speaker, a social snack break and a raffle. The club sponsors field trips--from rock quarry digs to group educational trips to fossil hunts. The club also enjoys Rock Rappers, an informal gathering at our Historian's home to show and discuss identification of various specimens. There are other annual events which include an educational booth at the "Treasures of the Earth" show, a club fund-raising auction, and sponsoring one of the best Rock Sale and Swaps on the East coast! RGMS welcomes everyone to come to a meeting, and see and talk to people who share a common interest in rocks, minerals and fossils. Nurturing our children in the geological sciences is important for our world's future.

Once again, the Richmond Gem and Mineral Society presented another basic geology class this week. This time, it was the Wild Acres group from the Tri-Cities. Attendees were elementary school-age students and their parents. We held the class in the Nature Center at Pocahontas State Park. Students and their parents were very interested in rocks and minerals. Once again, many thanks to the team for all their hard work: Kathy and Julia Paine, Chee Saunders and Tim Raney.
