Our very own Becky McDaniel was the celebrant for the daily service of Holy Eucharist at Community of St. Mary, Southern Province in Sewanee, TN this morning.

The Community of Saint Mary is an Episcopal Benedictine women’s monastery and is one of the oldest Anglican religious order in the United States, founded in 1865. Their life together is rooted in prayer, hospitality, and care for the earth.

They have up to five public services a day depending on which day of the week it is: Morning Prayer, Holy Eucharist, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline.

We encourage you to visit them if you’re ever in the area!

This past Tuesday, Guy was invited by Father Roman Peretyatko to visit a stable on the outskirts of Chernihiv with him.

Father Roman had arranged for a group of children and their parents to gather there and for a few hours, those kids fed horses, rode, played, and laughed.

Father Roman organizes these horse-therapy sessions regularly as part of his broader work supporting displaced and traumatized families in his community.

It’s one of many ways he’s showing up for people living through the unimaginable.

And he had a message for us here at Westover: “Thank you for all that you have done, and all that you are doing to help the people of Ukraine. Thank you for your consistent support during these difficult times. We truly appreciate your concern, care, and prayers for us. And Ukraine will prevail.”

We are grateful to be a parish that shows up however we can.

Even when that’s across oceans, in the middle of war, in a stable on the edge of a city under siege.

Thank you for making this possible with your prayers and your generosity.

If you're new to Westover or just getting to know us on social media, we'd love to introduce you to some of the wonderful people of our parish. First up is Rev. Becky!

The Very Rev. Becky McDaniel has been our Rector since August 2022, and she has brought a quiet, contemplative spirit and genuine warmth to everything she does here.

Whether she's preaching on Sunday morning, leading Gentle Yoga, or simply walking alongside someone in a difficult season, Becky has a gift for being a steady, caring presence in the lives of those around her.

Before coming to Westover, Becky spent years as a chaplain in Episcopal schools in Atlanta, Staunton, and Richmond, in work that reflects her deep love for meeting people, especially young people, right where they are.

She's a UVA English grad with a Master's from Vanderbilt and a seminary degree from Sewanee, and she has been a certified yoga teacher for over 20 years, even owning her own studio along the way.

We are so grateful that she found her way to Charles City.

Here’s a photo of Jane Bergstrahl with the gift she shared with Westover yesterday, a beautiful cross stitch of Howard Thurman’s poem “The Work of Christmas.”

It’s a meaningful and fitting piece for our community, capturing the spirit of the season in a way that invites us to carry it forward in our daily lives all year.

If you’d like to hear more about it, be sure to check out the announcements portion of yesterday’s service!

Join us at 10:00AM for our Trinity Sunday service.

Collect for Trinity Sunday:

"Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen."
