Today we honor Juneteenth—a day that reminds us of the power and value of freedom.
On June 19, 1865, the news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, marking a moment when freedom that had already been declared became a lived reality for many who had been waiting far too long.
As we remember this important day in history, we celebrate the freedom of our Black brothers and sisters, reflect on God's heart for justice, and give thanks for the progress that has been made while recognizing there is still work to be done.
More than anything, Juneteenth points us to a God who sees, hears, and cares for people. Throughout Scripture, we see His desire to bring freedom, hope, healing, and restoration. We serve a Savior who came to set captives free and invite all people into the life and freedom found in Him.
Today we remember. Today we celebrate. Today we give thanks for freedom.
