Contact Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper on the ROAD to Housing Act. The current version would impose a federal ban on developing and owning certain types of housing on private property. Specifically, Congress wants to ban the ownership of built-to-rent single-family homes by investors and force businesses to liquidate their inventories. This could have a chilling effect across the industry and wider economy. https://ow.ly/ekry50Ys3Fh

CAHB is advising local home builder associations to encourage municipalities planning to adopt the 2024 ICC codes to do so before July 1. After that date, any jurisdiction adopting or updating a building code must also adopt the Model Low Energy and Carbon Code (MLECC) or a more stringent standard—regardless of whether the update is energy-related.

For communities already planning to move to the 2024 ICC codes, adopting before the deadline allows them to avoid automatically triggering the state energy code requirement.

You can watch Joe Loidolt's, President of Classic Homes, full presentation on the CO Wildfire Resilience Code Board which goes into effect on July 1, 2026, with local governments required to adopt the code by April 1, 2026. He covers code requirements, application, mapping and administration. https://ow.ly/ZlBa50Yi8Uo

Additionally, we are hearing from local governments across the state who are finding it difficult if not impossible to adopt the model code by the deadline given the work that is required to get them there. We are trying to raise the volume of local governments reaching out to their legislative delegations and others about the need for an extension of time to implement.
