Teams will gather on Saturday, Aug. 29, for the 2026 Plane Pull presented by United Airlines. The event supports Special Olympics Colorado.

Merrill Middle School has been a leader in Special Olympics Colorado’s Unified Champion Schools program for more than 12 years, creating a culture where students with and without intellectual disabilities feel valued, included, and connected.

Through student-led inclusion initiatives, Unified Club leadership, and participation in statewide events, Merrill has become a powerful advocate for belonging. This year, students raised $10,000 through the Denver Polar Plunge, demonstrating their commitment to expanding opportunities for athletes of all abilities. As the first middle school in Denver Public Schools and only the second districtwide to earn National Banner recognition, Merrill serves as a model for inclusive school communities.

On Wednesday, October 14, we are excited to induct Merrill Middle School into the Special Olympics Colorado Hall of Fame as the 2026 “Chaka Sutton” Unified Champion School of the Year!
