I-70 HiMod Project Open House — Lessons Learned!

CAPA recently partnered with CDOT Region 3 (Grand Junction) and ELAM CONSTRUCTION (a QUIKRETE Company) for a successful open house showcasing Colorado's first Hi Mod asphalt project.

The event brought together industry professionals for a firsthand look at Hi Mod pavement placement, followed by a classroom session covering the engineering behind the technology, material design, and real-world applications. The Asphalt Institute and the Asphalt Pavement Alliance also supported the event, helping make it a valuable learning opportunity for everyone in attendance.

A special thank you to CDOT Region 3, Elam Construction, the Asphalt Institute, the Asphalt Pavement Alliance, the City of Rifle for hosting the classroom session, and everyone who made the trip to participate.

30 Years of LabCAT!

Thirty years. Thousands of certifications. One program helping raise the bar for asphalt technicians across Colorado.

During the CAPA/Women Of Asphalt Colorado Summer BBQ on August 7, CAPA celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Laboratory for Certified Asphalt Technicians (LabCAT)—a partnership between CDOT and CAPA that began in 1996.

CAPA’s Tom Peterson highlighted several keys to the program’s success: excellent proctors, strong oversight and accountability, great instructors, and dedicated staff.

And few people know the program better than Buster Bergles, Assistant Regional Materials Engineer with CDOT Region 2. Buster was part of one of the first LabCAT certification courses in 1996 and has continued to recertify every three years—including again in 2026!

Here’s to 30 years of certification, collaboration, and a commitment to doing the job right.

BIG NEWS: The Restore Our Roads Match Just Got Bigger!

The CAPA Board of Directors has approved an additional $100,000 contribution to the Restore Our Roads Campaign — bringing CAPA’s total contribution to $400,000 since December.

And there’s even more momentum behind the campaign. An anonymous road supporter has committed to matching every dollar raised, dollar-for-dollar, up to $1 million — but only through August 31.

With more than $300,000 already raised toward the match, including CAPA’s latest $100,000 contribution, the campaign has now added $600,000 in combined contributions and matching funds toward the effort.

That puts us 33% of the way to the full $1 million match goal.

There’s still time to help double the impact of your contribution. Give today and your donation can go twice as far: https://www.restoreourroadsco.com/

📅 The $1 million match ends August 31.

Every dollar matters. Every dollar matched moves us closer to restoring Colorado’s roads.

August is National Traffic Awareness Month 🚧

At CAPA, we’re joining the nationwide effort to highlight the importance of staying alert and safe on our roads, especially in and around construction zones.

Just like the repaving work shown here on Fountain Mesa Blvd. in the City of Fountain, asphalt crews and road workers across Colorado put their safety on the line every day to improve the roads we all rely on.

This month, we're reminding drivers to slow down, stay focused, and follow posted signs in work zones. Your attention behind the wheel could save a life.

Let’s work together to make our roadways safer for everyone—drivers, pedestrians, and the hardworking crews who keep our infrastructure moving.

Stay alert. Drive smart. Respect the work zone.
