Applications Now Open: APWA-CAPA Asphalt Technology Scholarship Program

Ready to strengthen your understanding of asphalt technology? The joint APWA-CAPA Asphalt Technology Scholarship Program is now accepting applications!

This scholarship provides an opportunity to attend the week-long Asphalt Technology Course at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.

Participants will gain a broader understanding of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) technology and the knowledge to better manage specifications, projects, and programs.

Planning for 2027 is already underway, and we're kicking off our upcoming Local Agency Asphalt Forums next month.

These forums are open to all CAPA members, with a tailored focus for local agency public works teams, consultants, contractors, and industry suppliers. We will be covering specification updates, new technology, best practices, and program plans for the 2027 season.

Building Colorado’s Workforce Takes All of Us.

CAPA recently participated in an Industrial Property Owners Consortium (IPOC) facility tour and business leaders meeting hosted by JFW Trucking, bringing industry perspectives directly into the conversation with U.S. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling and U.S. Representative Gabe Evans.

The discussion focused on issues that matter across Colorado’s construction and infrastructure industries:

▪️ Workforce recruitment
▪️ Training and retention
▪️ Career pathways
▪️ Labor market needs
▪️Opportunities for continued industry collaboration

CAPA’s Tom Peterson participated on behalf of the association, “We thank IPOC for including us in this unique opportunity to have a seat at the table and discuss workforce and industry priorities, and identify opportunities for continued collaboration.”

Developing a strong workforce requires meaningful conversations between employers, industry organizations, educators and policymakers. CAPA is proud to bring the perspective of Colorado’s asphalt and paving industry to those conversations.

Bringing asphalt expertise directly to Colorado communities!

Recently, the City of Aspen hosted a CAPA Asphalt Lunch & Learn led by Brandon Brever, P.E., CAPA’s Director of Engineering & Technology.

The session covered a range of topics relevant to pavement decision-making and construction, including:

--> Asphalt pavement inspection
--> PG binders
--> Mix selection
--> Asphalt mix types

City of Aspen staff and representatives from the Town of Snowmass Village participated in the discussion, creating an opportunity to learn, ask questions and share knowledge about asphalt pavement.
