Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🍎🥕🌽🥦🫐🫜 This month we celebrate Pride with our many q***r siblings across the state and throughout local foods. Pride parades commemorate resistance to violent erasure through both celebration and protest. It celebrates progress and defies threats of backsliding.

The LGBTQIA+ family includes farmers, food makers, fisherfolk, restaurateurs, distributors, the variety of roles that make our local food happen, business owners and employees, and customers and partners.

We are seeing in many parts of the country a rise again in hate-driven backlash and legislative policing—particularly targeting transgender people. Q***r economic inclusion needs to go deeper than the rainbow branding.

Here at the Boston Local Food Program, we celebrate the rainbow of diversity around us all year round. Through working with small businesses, with our own staff and families, we appreciate all that the Pride movement has done for everyone, and we are grateful for the opportunity to uplift the LGBTQIA+ business owners in our network every month of the year. May you feel the joy and radical love that makes Pride Month special all year round.

♥️ Eat Local Always with Belmont Farmers' Market ♥️

The Belmont Farmers’ Market season starts on June 4, and we have a great lineup—come see new and familiar vendors for 2026, representing food traditions from around the world!

Explore a great selection of local produce, meat, fish, dairy, prepared foods, drinks, baked goods, garden plants, and non-food items, too.

Opening Day features our Food Assistance Information Fair. Statewide and local agencies will be here with two goals: to help people overcome food insecurity and to remind us that it’s a problem in every community. Need help stretching your food budget? SNAP, HIP, FMNP, HIP+ — we know that food assistance can be confusing, but we’ll help you figure it out!

We’ll see you on June 4, 2-6:30 PM in the Belmont Center parking lot. See BelmontFarmersMarket.org/2026 for details, or the link in our bio.

♥️Eat Local Always with ♥️🐟🍄‍🟫🦞🍓🍇🌽🍅🫛 Boston Public Market is a year-round public market that celebrates local farms and food producers. Our 30 vendors support over 48,000 acres of New England farmland—whether they are farms themselves or source ingredients and products from them.

Spring is a time of transition and change, with the first fruits being the shortest visitors at our New England farms. Celebrate with us with this recipe for Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp, and enjoy the brief flavors of spring! It’s important to remember in times like these that change starts close to home. Support your local farmers to strengthen your community. Keep it local and share the love! 💛

♥️Eat Local Always with ♥️🌱🐟🍄‍🟫🌽🍅🫛 Where Kids Learn, Families Save, and Community Grows

At the East Boston Farmers Market, operated by NeighborHealth, fresh food is just the beginning. With food assistance programs like SNAP, HIP (Healthy Incentives Program), WIC, and the City of Boston Farmers’ Market Coupon Program, families in East Boston and surrounding communities can increase their grocery budget and bring home more fresh, local produce from this market every week. And through the Power of Produce Club, a nutrition incentive that issues coupons of $2.50 to participating children to buy their own produce from farmers, kids get to explore new fruits and vegetables, learn about nutrition, and build healthy habits early.

The East Boston Farmers Market organizes fun activities throughout the season like cooking demonstrations, hands-on activities for kids, and art workshops. The market also features many community organizations every week that provide critical social, health, financial, and cultural resources. Shoppers don’t just come to the market to buy food but also to receive support and engage with their community.

From families trying new vegetables to neighbors connecting with each other at the market, this space is all about community and care.

♥️Eat Local Always celebrates New England's Fishing with lliance♥️🎣 The New England Young Fishermen’s Alliance is a nonprofit working to sustain the future of small-boat commercial fishing in Northern New England by supporting the next generation of fishermen through training, mentoring, and community-building. The organization focuses on preserving working waterfronts, strengthening fishing livelihoods, and increasing access to locally harvested seafood.
Through its hands-on Greenhorn Apprenticeship participants gain real-world experience aboard commercial fishing vessels while learning essential skills including safety, seamanship, and fisheries knowledge, directly from experienced fishermen. The program helps launch careers on the water while addressing the region’s shortage of young entrants into the industry.

By training and supporting new fishermen, NEYFA plays a vital role in strengthening local seafood systems, keeping supply chains regional, supporting coastal economies, and ensuring communities have access to fresh, sustainably harvested seafood.

♥️ Eat Local Always with ♥️ 🐟🦞

Good for the state, Great on your Plate: Choose Massachusetts-grown oysters!

Eating local isn't just a trend—it's an investment in our coastal communities. Massachusetts boasts some of the finest, most sought-after oysters in the US, produced by an estimated 400 farms across 37 coastal towns. Oysters have become one of the highest-value seafood products in the Commonwealth, and oyster farms play a vital role in creating jobs and resilient food systems within our Blue Economy.

At Cuttyhunk Shellfish Farms, we are proud to be a part of that story. As a family-run farm growing oysters on the West End of Cuttyhunk Island since 1981, we have grown alongside this industry, committed to cultivating the highest-quality oysters, providing stewardship of our local ecosystem, and keeping the tradition of the working waterfronts alive for our community and the next generation of farmers.

Every oyster on the menu tells a story. Choosing Massachusetts-grown oysters, such as the Cuttyhunk Oyster, means not just fresher oysters but also reducing the amount of handling, fuel, and packaging used to transport them and supporting local farms by keeping local fishermen employed.
