From a youth podcast studio to the power tunnels beneath London, YPP’s UK visit brought the summer Math and Energy project to life! 🇬🇧
📻 Fun Kids Radio: Three high school Math Literacy Workers discussed their summer learning and YPP’s model of young people teaching younger students. The conversation connected energy, the economic contributions of enslaved Black people in both the US and the UK commonwealth, and questions about whose work and knowledge society often recognizes. There was also a really cool “crisp” tasting contest to be had.
⚡️National Grid Tunnel Tour, South London: Students explored energy infrastructure and heard young employees explain how mentorship and apprenticeships helped them enter the field—opening a conversation about their own pathways into STEM.
🥬 Brixton Cultural, History & Food Walk: Led by Gorgeous, this walking tour explored Black British history and African and Caribbean culture through neighborhood stories and food, inviting connections across the Atlantic.
♻️Earth Cubs: A visit with the founder and CEO Toby Hunt - another National Grid Foundation partner -- explored how engaging content helps children learn about the environment—and opened up possibilities for future collaboration with YPP.
Four experiences connected by one question: How can young people use mathematics education and cross national and cultural partnerships to understand the world and help shape its future?
