🎨 This week on State of the Art 🎨

In 1976, the artist Nan Ross founded an organization supporting individuals with disabilities called Spindleworks here in Maine. She had two goals – that those participating get their art seen and for people to respect them as artists, and to get the artists more at ease in the community.

Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, Spindleworks continues today in both Brunswick and Gardiner, offering opportunities for creative growth and shared skill-building for Artists and Artist Mentors.

Spindleworks Artist Anna McDougal and Senior Manager Brian Braley join us this week to talk about this fifty-year milestone and the impact of this program on the lives of artists with disabilities in our community.

More about Spindleworks and its anniversary events this summer at the Independence Association website, https://spindleworks.independenceassociation.org/.

State of the Art airs Sunday and Monday at noon on Maine Public Classical, and the full interview is available for listening on demand starting Monday afternoons at mainepublic.org/stateoftheart
