The Spindleworks Brunswick Gallery and Store are located at 7 Lincoln Street just a short walk from Maine St and we are open Monday-Friday 9:00-4:30. Some members of our community are sensitive to fragrances whic

h can trigger allergy symptoms. Please refrain from wearing scented products when visiting our programs. Accessibility: There is a wheelchair ramp and parking spot for loading and unloading on the left side of our building. There is a restroom that is navigable but not to ADA specific compliance for public use. The downstairs which features our weaving studio and galleries is accessible via a minimal 32” wheelchair clearance. Our studio features a store, rotating gallery shows, and a diverse selection of art available for sale in all studio rooms. We are also open for 2nd Friday Art Walks June, July, August, September until 7pm. A visit to our studios and gallery is a colorful adventure which can often be bustling with workshops, music, dance, or theater. Spindleworks artists are always available to show you around and share their art during during studio hours 9:00-3:00. Spindleworks Brunswick is a program of the Independence Association of Brunswick Maine whose mission is to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities in obtaining full and inclusive lives in their chosen community.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the loss of longtime Spindleworks artist Amy Madsen.

Amy was not only a talented and dedicated artist, but also an enthusiastic Special Olympian who had the honor of representing Maine at this summer’s USA Games in Minneapolis. Her contagious smile, positive attitude, and joyful spirit made her a wonderful ambassador for our state and a source of joy to everyone who knew her.

Amy was a beloved member of the Spindleworks community, and her loss has deeply affected our artists, staff, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. We will miss seeing her in the studio, sharing her creativity, laughter, and a her bright colorful personality.

We are grateful for the time Amy shared with us and will carry her memory with us. Our hearts are with her family, friends, fellow athletes, and everyone who loved her.

Tonight our mentors and artists made sunflower pins to wear in her honor. Stop by during our opening 4-7 to honor this amazing person.

Join us for an evening of Spindleworks poetry & performances! ✨✨

Thursday, July 16, 2026 | 4:30–6:00 p.m. | Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center

Following the poetry and dance performances by Spindleworks artists, guests will have an opportunity to purchase the book "I know a place: 50 years of Spindleworks poetry," published by Gary Lawless, Gulf of Maine Books.

This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition "Celebrating Independence! Fifty Years of Spindleworks, 1976–2026" on view now at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art through August 16, 2026.
