October 1st through May 31st marks "heat season."

During this period, landlords are legally required to provide heat and hot water to tenants.

Specifically, the heat must be set at or above 68 degrees when the temperature falls below 55 degrees between 6am and 10pm, and set at least 62 degrees, regardless of the temperature outside, between 10pm and 6am.

If your landlord is not fulfilling its legal requirement to provide heat and hot water, you can report the violation through 311 and/or call our office at 646-974-8761 for assistance.

Prior to Wednesday’s New York City Council Housing and Buildings Committee hearing, we joined our coalition partners to rally for the passage of the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act.

We’re getting close to the finish line. Let’s keep up the momentum and pass COPA now.

Yesterday, our Executive Director Ramina Davidson testified before the New York City Council Housing and Buildings Committee in support of the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act (COPA).

Giving community land trusts and qualified non-profits the opportunity to purchase at-risk apartment buildings will help prevent displacement of our communities.

Passing COPA would be one more vital tool to help fix our broken housing system, and we look forward to seeing this critical piece of legislation enacted into law.
