YWCA Brooklyn

YWCA Brooklyn In 2015 there were over 20,000 visits to YWCA Brooklyn’s Social Justice Community Center.

Critical to YWCA Brooklyn’s social justice model is the dedication of its newly renovated,180,000 square foot downtown Brooklyn building in service to the community and specifically other grassroots organizations also serving women and girls in Brooklyn. Facing a rapidly gentrifying borough, YWCA Brooklyn recognizes that many nonprofits cannot pay the rising costs of rent and are, as a result, str

uggling to survive. Through YWCA Brooklyn funded subsidizes for both office and program space, these organizations are able, not only to survive, but also to expand the reach and impact of their services. YWCA Brooklyn is proud to currently house four other nonprofit organizations including Girls for Gender Equity, as well as to provide free event and meeting space to dozens of other nonprofits throughout Brooklyn.

New Yorkers are losing thousands of dollars every year due to unfair pay practices. This income is essential for basic expenses like groceries, rent, tuition, and healthcare, and its loss makes New York increasingly unaffordable for families already stretched thin. We need to urge leadership to bring this bill to the floor: https://equalrights.quorum.us/campaign/162736/

A duo of civic-minded neighborhood kids took action, setting up a table to offer passersby an opportunity to support the residents in our building. They sold games of chess or Othello, cold drinks for 50¢, and custom poems. Such a sweet community gift on a pleasant spring afternoon. Thank you AK & M 🧡

On April 29, our YW LEADers took to the streets for the official NYC March and Rally, holding their signs as a show of solidarity with survivors. The march began at Brooklyn Borough Hall, led the marchers across the Brooklyn Bridge and culminated at David Dinkins Municipal Building where speakers addressed the crowd. Participating in this event each year is an act of protest against sexual violence and a powerful public challenge to victim-blaming myths.

As part of the YWCA National Network, we are proud to stand alongside our sister Associations across the nation that provide critical services and support to survivors of sexual assault and their families.

As we recognize a quarter of a century of uniting us in the common mission to end sexual assault once and for all, let's celebrate the service providers and advocates who work each day to build the road to healing and lift the voices and experiences of survivors.
