Created to harness the energy and ideas of new leadership the YLC is comprised of professionals from various backgrounds within the public and private sectors. Each member supports TBHC and its community through volunteerism, philanthropy, and special projects. What is The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC)? Founded in 1845, as Brooklyn’s first hospital, TBHC meets the healthcare needs of over one million New Yorkers annually. A designated safety-net hospital, TBHC has always cared for those most in need, turning no one away. Today, our highly regarded hospital, with the latest in technology, provides the highest quality care. It is our mission to continue to provide care for all who walk in our doors while simultaneously modernizing and expanding to meet the needs of our ever changing community. How does the YLC currently support TBHC? TBHC’s Young Leadership Council is working to establish a Family Room in the hospital’s brand-new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Since its opening in 2011, the PICU has been caring for the most critically ill children in NYC. The Family Room will be a refuge for family members who have a child in the PICU to sleep, rest, eat, phone relatives, celebrate or grieve and thus, will play an integral role in the hospital’s family-centered, personalized care methodology.
