Our New Haven members are putting in the work!

At our latest team meeting, members identified opportunities to reach more young people, grow our membership, and organize around important dates and actions leading into the legislative session.

Our members meet weekly to plan, organize, and figure out how we can continue showing up for our immigrant communities.

There's a lot of work ahead, and we need more young people at the table. If you want to be part of building power and making change in your community, join us at our next New Haven team meeting!

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dolores Huerta (1930–2026), a trailblazing labor organizer, civil rights activist, and lifelong advocate for immigrant communities.

From organizing historic farmworker strikes and boycotts to fighting for workers’ rights, immigrant justice, and women's equality, Dolores dedicated her life to building power among communities too often denied a voice.

As co-founder of the United Farm Workers, she helped transform the labor movement and showed generations of organizers what is possible when communities come together to demand change.

Her words, “Sí se puede,” became more than a slogan. They became a rallying cry for generations fighting for dignity, justice, and a better future.

At Connecticut Students for a Dream, we carry that spirit forward through the leadership of immigrant youth who continue organizing, protecting their communities, and building collective power.

Her legacy lives on in every generation that refuses to give up the fight for justice.

Rest in power, Dolores Huerta. ✊🏽

You are not alone. We are not alone.

Our mental health matters. It affects how we feel, connect with others, and move through everyday life. For immigrant communities, stigma, barriers to affordable care, and ongoing attacks on our communities can make it harder to get the support we deserve.

Check in with yourself, your friends, your family, and your community. Asking for support is nothing to be ashamed of, and none of us should have to carry everything alone.

C4D Student Leader Dorys Joins National Campaign for Affordable, Safe Campuses

Dorys, a Georgetown University student and student leader with Connecticut Students for a Dream, joined students in Washington, D.C., for the launch of United We Dream’s Powered by Students: The Takeover campaign.

Speaking at American University, Dorys highlighted the barriers immigrant students face, including the financial strain of pursuing higher education. She called for students to organize across campuses and state lines for affordable college, safe and inclusive campuses, and resources that support student success.

“WE, the students, have always been the front lines of change,” Dorys said.

The campaign brings students together to organize for campuses where every student, regardless of race, class, or immigration status, can afford to attend, thrive, and learn without fear.

Connecticut’s protected areas law took effect October 1, thanks to the collective work of community groups, faith leaders, and labor unions.

We’ll be canvassing our community, tabling at schools, and getting information directly to our neighbors so our communities know their rights.

Today in Hartford, we brought together community organizations, faith leaders, labor unions, and elected officials as Connecticut’s protected areas law took effect, a victory won by organizing and building power together.

Even as we mark this victory, we cannot fully celebrate knowing that members of our community woke up today without health care coverage. Families deserve to access schools, health care, and essential services safely.

Thank you to our partners and everyone who stood with us today. Together, we’ll keep organizing to ensure these protections are upheld and every immigrant family can safely access health care, education, and essential services.
