When Connie Baio was diagnosed with cancer just four months after moving to Connecticut, the Swim Across the Sound Assistance Fund was there to help with her household bills, giving her one less worry during treatment.
Today, Connie is sharing her story and her gratitude for the support that helped her through a difficult time.
"I was so very happy and relieved knowing that the Swim Across the Sound organization was going to help me financially with my bills. I was already feeling overwhelmed and stressed out about my cancer diagnosis and beginning treatments. It felt so reassuring knowing that there is an organization that helps with household bills. I thanked God for sending them my way. I had only lived in CT for 4 months when I received my cancer diagnosis after a routine mammogram.
I am so happy I chose St. Vincent's Medical Center and Dr. Zelkowitz, nurse Nicole, and social worker Brandy. They were all so awesome, caring and always supportive giving encouragement throughout my journey with treatments.
Thank you so very much for your support of the Swim Across the Sound. If you can volunteer or donate to this organization, you should, because I would not have made it through without this support. I hope it will be around forever to help others like me."

Luca and Giancarlo Rubio took part in the Swim Across the Sound as swimmers and team captains to give back to the organization that supported their family during the most difficult time. They raised more than $14,000 for cancer patients and families.
