What a great afternoon at St. John's Family Center. Our incredibly generous partner-parish, St Paul's Episcopal Church, Fairfield CT, once again blessed us with their month long collection of socks, gloves and hats for our neighbors in need. Thank you to Fiona Yue and Wendy W Cudmore for bringing these just in time as the weather is getting colder. Another grateful shout out to Denise Johnson and our friends at Southport Congregational Church and Carousel Thrift for more clothing for our weekly free clothing closet. Lastly, we count on the dedicated congregation at Trinity Episcopal Church, Nichols - Trumbull, CT for the incredibly delicious meal of meatloaf this evening at our weekly sit-down community supper. Our neighbors love this hearty meal which was accompanied by creamed corn, scalloped cheddar potatoes, bread pudding, salad bar, home made soup and yogurt. This kind or community outreach is impactful, dignified and heartwarming.

Thankful Tuesday at St. John's Family Center.Grateful for so many. First and foremost, Carole Stagnato Canzoneri for over 500 meatballs for our upcoming community supper. St. Paul's Nursery School of Fairfield, Inc. and Margee Ready for the donation of 5 trikes for the daycare located at St. John's Episcopal Church. Next huge thank you to Denise Johnson and our friends at Southport Congregational Church for donation of clothing from Carousel Thrift for our weekly clothing closet. Some new volunteers today at our community supper from SASO Boys Fairfield. Welcome Alex and Abby. Tonight's meal provided by our volunteer Mercy who provided an amazing dinner of classic Indian fare of Biryani and she brought many different delicious cheesecakes. Our neighbors were thrilled to have something uniquely delicious, many for the first time. Lastly we had a farewell party for our own Washington Dwight Senior. Washington has been an integral part of our operations for many years. He will be incredibly missed. We thank him and wish him the best in his future in Florida... s

What are SNAP benefits? SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as "food stamps". It is the largest federal anti-hunger program in the United States. It gives low-income individuals and families monthly funds to buy healthy food. You can buy groceries such as fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, bread, and seeds to grow food. You cannot buy alcohol, to***co, vitamins, medicines, pet food, or hot prepared food. Connecticut residents have faced major cut backs in SNAP benefits over the past several years. This DIRECTLY affects our outreach. We have been experiencing an increase in attendance at our programs. Our struggle is real and we rely on the financial generosity of volunteers and our community.. Please remember to think of us during the upcoming holiday season. We are small but mighty but need and rely on your help.... NOW onto tonight's meal. Once again, Christ Episcopal Church Stratford CT prepped penne with meat sauce, fresh salad, home made soup and ample desserts. We served over 106 hot meals.Of special mention is Carole Stagnato Canzoneri who sent over blessing bags for distribution by our own chairperson, Odetta Prince who is a Bridgeport educator and will distribute shelf stable snack bags to her students. Carole also sent halloween treat bags for the daycare children.. Lastly, we were joined by three great students from SASO Boys Fairfield. Thank you Vanessa Genova DeSantis for bringing Reid DeSantis, Deacon Sanderson and Koby Shultz. In spite of the challenges we face, love, dignity and nourishment was the order of the night!

Blessings for our baby diaper center at St. John's Family Center. Today we received diapers courtesy of St Paul's Episcopal Church, Fairfield CT. Pictured are St. Paul's vestry members, Linda Shackleton and Fiona Yue.. also thank you to Wendy W Cudmore who oversees outreach from St. Paul's...we appreciate you helping us fill shelves that are constantly empty! Please consider holding a diaper drive in your neighborhood, civic group, church or syagogue to help us!

Please take the time to watch our amateur video to the end. It tells a bit of our story at St. John's Family Center. Thanks to Carole Stagnato Canzoneri, Jeanne Connell-Pacewicz and Sandy Panza. We also need to thank our friends at St. Anthony of Padua Church of Fairfield, Marlene Pioli Battista, Carol Dunham Sweeney to name a few. The most important part of this video is actually twofold. SNAP benefits have not been fully restored which means those facing daily food scarcity and insecurity face an increase in hunger and we are trying to fill that need as best we can. The second is how we deliver: with much caring, dignity and love. We need your support and help and while we are small but mighty, we will make it happen together!~

Another busy day at St. John's Family Center Our clothing closet was well attended today. Neighbors take all of the gently used clothing that they need. In addition we offer them fresh food as well as prepared and shelf stable food to go, when available . Not all of them can make our weekly food pantry held each saturday. Tonight, our sit down community supper served over 100 meals this evening.. Fried chicken, rice, hot dogs, soup, bread pudding and our salad bar. Pictured are some of our amazing volunteers... Stefan, Ray and Eulyn..and an amazing smiling Patty. Thanks for bringing joy to our outreach and most importantly to our neighbors.

Thank you to St. Anthony of Padua Church for your generous donation of plates and utensils to help us feed and nourish our hungry neighbors in the heart of food insecurity in Bridgeport. We appreciate your congregation's willingness to collect and help. Thank you for being a blessing to our outreach and so many hungry souls!

A typical Saturday at our food pantry where we serve 200 to 250 families. We have set up our food pantry using a shopping method. Our neighborhood guests come in and get to shop with a cart and pick what they need. This gives them a sense of dignity instead of handing them a bag full of items many of which they are unable to cook or do not eat. This whole process makes our food pantry, incredibly efficient. Thank you to our volunteers who unload an average of 7000 pounds of fresh produce and shelf stable food each week to make it happen. We are always looking for help on Wednesdays between 11:30 and 1:00 to help unload our amazing food donations from Connecticut Foodshare.

Fun,light-hearted and spirited "cookout" meal at our weekly community sit down supper at St. John's Family Center...First and foremost, thank you to Carole Stagnato Canzoneri and Sandy Panza for making delicious home made macaroni salad and cole slaw, fresh watermelon, ice pops,PB&J sandwiches and 50 personal care blessing bags to go. We grilled burgers and hot dogs and also had our salad bar and home made soup as well. We served over 100 meals and everyone enjoyed a waning days of summer cookout with us. Our day ended with a drop off to Fridgeport with some extra fresh veggies, eggs and shelf stable pantry items. Please note: Posters of Bob supplied by our own board member, Fiona Yue(affectionately also known as Fifi). Thanks for your spirit and incredible sense of humor. Lots of love in the room, as always.
