Early Wednesday evening May 30, the circa 1840 historical Fairfield, CT landmark Sturges Cottage was the host site for Nourish Bridgeport's fundraising soiree, themed "Hope Blooms". The beautiful evening was enjoyed in the expansive back garden for the most part, with attendees enjoying wine, beer, passed hors d'oeuvres and presentation by select members of the group's Board of Directors. Guests also heard from a woman, who is directly benefitting from the support of the group, who escaped violence and abuse in El Salvador. Descendants of the Sturges family also led guests on a tour of Sturges Cottage, which features many artifacts, 30 rooms, 11 staircases and 13 fireplaces!

Nourish Bridgeport, formerly known as Norma Pfriem Urban Outreach Initiatives, aims to better the lives of the homeless and hungry in Bridgeport, CT. Its task as an organization is two-fold: to welcome neighbors in need with open arms and hearts...offering extreme hospitality and unconditional warmth that is not paralleled anywhere in Bridgeport. And to help improve the quality of their lives in so many ways.

Some of the group's outreach includes offering healthy home cooked meals with fresh vegetables and proteins at its weekly Feel the Warmth Community supper and our Food Pantry programs to improve dietary intake. Its English as a Second language (ESL) program offers a healthy meal and child care for over 50 individuals each Wednesday after work so that those in need can come and learn without personal sacrifice.

According to the group, the need for its programs is increasing in Bridgeport and they need more financial support to continue their outreach.

This FB page is in the process of being re-titled, and our website will be up and running soon -- all as Nourish Bridgeport, formerly known as Norma F. Pfriem Urban Outreach Initiatives (aka NPUOI). And yes, we are still in partnership with United Congregational Church! And yes, we still need YOUR support! Good night! It's been a long day.

Tonight we had our cake and ate it too! We had so much to celebrate at our Feel the Warmth community supper. We unveiled our new name and logo to over 90 guests with a beautiful cake that all enjoyed. Our meal was sponsored by Salisbury Congregational Church UCC. Pastor Diane Monti-Catania brought members of her congregation along with new volunteers from the Northwest Connecticut Unitarian Fellowship of Salisbury. Their meal sponsorship allowed us to serve roasted chicken breast, scalloped potatoes, steamed broccoli and carrots along with our fresh salad bar AND CAKE!!! We could not continue to serve the hungry and homeless a nutritious meal without the financial support of our community, mission and mitzvah partners. As we celebrate our new name and our amazing outreach history in Bridgeport, we hope you will consider becoming a support partner of nOURish BRIDGEPORT.

As we unveil our new name, we want to acknowledge that generous start-up grants from the Norma F. Pfriem Foundation starting in 2010 enabled us to assess the needs of our neighbors, create relevant programs, and build a volunteer community that extends far beyond city limits. We are so grateful to Ms. Pfriem and the trustees of the foundation that bore her name. We believe Nourish Bridgeport accurately reflects our mission, and we are committed to continuing our support of Bridgeport's under-served residents.
