I don't usually make posts like this, but I don't believe I've ever been in this situation before with a rescue. This beautiful bird was just brought to me by a local good samaritan who has been feeding them at home for several days. Yesterday, they opened their sliding glass door and this bird walked right inside.

They are very friendly, seemingly healthy albeit thin, and VERY sweet. And absolutely gorgeous! If you're in the Middletown, NY area and may be missing this bird, please reach out. Proof will be required to claim them. They will be on a 30 day quarantine/stray hold, and adoptable if they are not claimed.

Please share this if you live in the Hudson Valley, this bird hopefully didn't get too far from home. They have no bands or identifying information besides their unique markings.

Why do pigeons need to be rescued? 🕊️🕊️

Pigeons are not wild, they are domesticated, feral animals. The only difference between the pigeons living in NYC, and the ones sold for event releases, is their breed. There are over 300 breeds of the rock dove aka pigeon, from fancy, to utility, and sport breeds, just like dogs. Pigeons have been domesticated for ~10,000 years, and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Pigeons need our help because we are responsible for their plight. Instead of punishing them for simply trying to exist, find out what you can do to care for your local pigeon flock. And please support the very, very few rescues and sanctuaries who are doing this work, because there is definitely not enough of us.

Pyrite has a quick announcement! We are now closed for new intakes until further notice. If you're interested in adopting, please fill out the application (link in bio).

There are lots of pairs available and a few singles as well. Everyone is healthy, vet cleared, and transport is available (within ~50 miles of the Hudson Valley).

Adopters are provided with basic necessities, and support is always available for any questions or concerns. If you'd like to visit (by appointment only) to meet the flock, please reach out 🕊️🕊️

new rescue alert! well, kinda. this tiny cutie was found back in July in Brooklyn, where she walked right up to someone and refused to leave.

clearly a domesticated and imprinted bird, the finder Bluestar Gardens initially took her in, then handed her off to someone who claimed to "work with birds". this MAN then went and RELEASED HER back into the park, despite knowing she was coming here to the sanctuary!

by the grace of whatever god exists, the original finder went back and FOUND HER AGAIN! she went into foster care with mayra 🌞🕊️ in Queens, and is now finally here with us.

this ADORABLE pint-sized pigeon is basically the total package. feisty, interactive, friendly, and so playful! she's pending DNA confirmation but is believed to be female, and is health cleared. if you're in the tristate area and interested in adopting, application is linked in bio!

I f*cked up 🫠

All it takes is missing one egg, and in my case, letting your guard down for long enough for them to lay an extra egg. I always recheck nests in between their normal clutch cycles, because this is exactly how Boba happened in 2024. I will not even pretend that I wasn't outsmarted by a disabled pigeon, Uno and her partner Yin won this round. Congrats to the new parents, they are VERY proud of themselves 😭 and if you've never seen a brand new baby pigeon, now you have! Luckily I don't have to do anything, because pigeons are incredible parents. We could REALLY use your support and donations, especially now going into winter! Stay tuned for baby updates and a name announcement! 🐣
