Trails to Trades

Last weekend Girl Scouts got to work side-by-side with Sheet Metal Workers 38 members Maddy, Katrina, Sam and Denise.

They didn’t just learn about the trades.
They learned directly from women who do this work every day.

Later this month we are expanding this opportunity out to even more Girl Scouts and even more tradeswomen.

Girls will hear their stories and learn about the trades, and just as importantly, these professional women will teach them skills that will help them in the future.

Girls will meet and learn from tradeswomen across the Building Trades, including:
• Denise and the Teamsters — working with vehicles and equipment
• Tiffany and the Painters — hands-on painting skills
• Maddy and the Sheet Metal Workers — metal crafting
• Cynthia, Nicole and the Laborers — hands-on construction basics, materials, and how projects get built from the ground up

…and more across electricity, plumbing, carpentry and other trades.

🔧 Girl Scouts STEM Career Exploration Event
🗓 Saturday, April 25th | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors will:
• Earn their STEM Career Exploration badge
• Receive a Trails to Trades Building Trades patch
• Take home giveaways from the event
• Gain real, practical skills from experienced tradeswomen

The sisters of SMART Local 38 welcomed nearly 20 Girl Scouts from Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, Inc. today to learn about their journey and their craft, and to make some really cool projects too! Thanks so much to everyone who helped bring this great experience to the Girls.

This week is Women in Construction Week — celebrating the women building, operating, and leading across the skilled trades.

On Saturday, April 25 (9:00 AM – Noon), Girl Scouts Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors will step into that world and earn their STEM Career Exploration badge by working directly with union professionals from:

• Teamsters
• Laborers
• Operating Engineers
• Sheet Metal Workers
• Painters
• Electricians
• Carpenters
• More to come!

Girls will rotate through hands-on career exploration stations, complete every badge requirement, speak with tradeswomen from throughout the Hudson Valley and participate in a badge ceremony at 11:30 AM.
