As a nonprofit in Brewster, NY, we partner with farms, grocers, and food distributors to rescue surplus fresh food and ensure it reaches those who need it most.

🍎 From rescued apples to a tasty snack! 🍏

Our gleaning volunteers picked apples at Henny Penny Farm that otherwise would have gone to waste, and our kitchen volunteers transformed that rescued fruit into dried apple slices! Instead of rotting on the ground, these apples are getting a second life as a tasty snack that will be distributed to our community! Thank you, Henny Penny Farm and volunteers ❤️

Last week was a busy one in our kitchen! We prepared over 5,000 servings again, setting another new record! From taco platters and soups to gumbo and frittata, we made a variety of dishes for our partners. We couldn’t do it without the hard work of our volunteers day after day to wash, chop, roast, package, and more - thank you! 💚

✨ We are so grateful for our wonderful volunteers! Every day, they help rescue, cook, and deliver nourishing meals to our neighbors, and they also go the extra mile for special events like last week's Annual Benefit. This behind-the-scenes work often goes unseen, but we’re so grateful to our volunteers for jumping in and saying YES when we need extra help, sometimes at a moment's notice. For last week's event, volunteers made beautiful table wreaths, prepped, cooked, and transported dinner, plated delicious appetizers and dessert, greeted guests, and so much more!✨

✨ Last Thursday, we celebrated 10 years of Second Chance Foods with an unforgettable evening! ✨

We came together to honor how far we’ve come, the community that makes our work possible, and the possibilities that lie ahead. Thanks to our incredible supporters, we raised critical funds to further our mission and continue creating a more food-secure future.

From the delicious meal prepared in our kitchen to the beautiful ambiance, exciting silent auction, and heartfelt moments shared throughout the evening, every part of the night made our 10th anniversary one to remember.

We were honored to celebrate Wendy Samuelson and Glynwood, whose support and partnership have been instrumental to our journey. We truly would not be where we are today without them!

To our guests, honorees, volunteers, staff, board, and supporters: thank you for celebrating this milestone with us, for believing in our mission, and for helping us imagine even more for the future. 💚

A record-breaking week in the kitchen 🎉 Our team prepared an incredible 5,005 meals last week!

From juicy salisbury steak to hearty taco bowls and fresh green salads, our kitchen crew kept the delicious meals coming! 🥩🌮🥗

Big or small, every donation makes a difference! 🍠 A huge thank-you to Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center for donating over 1,000 lbs of sweet potatoes, winter squash, and other veggies. These sweet potatoes have already been sent out to our neighbors in need, helping put fresh, nutritious food on tables throughout our community!

At Second Chance Foods, our compost has a second life! Food scraps from meal preparation, along with donated food that isn’t suitable for distribution, go to Lobster Hill Farm in Brewster to help feed their animals. 🐷🐔
We’re looking for a volunteer for Wednesday afternoon to transport the compost to the farm and return the empty buckets to us. Contact [email protected] if you’re interested!
