Happy Pi Day! The math department at Carmel High School recently celebrated Pi Day 2026.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the annual “Digits of Pi” Contest, where students compete to see who can memorize the most digits of the mathematical constant π. This year’s winner, Erik Dezendorf, impressed everyone by successfully memorizing 1,010 digits of Pi. The Math Department congratulates Erik on this outstanding accomplishment and recognizes all of the students who participated in this year’s contest.

In addition to the contest, the Math Department partnered with Student Organization (S.O.) to host a Pi Day shirt fundraiser. The fundraiser received great support from students and the school community. Funds raised will go toward the Paul Eckhart and Kathryn Casey Scholarship Funds, as well as help support homecoming activities at Carmel High School. The scholarships supported by the fundraiser will be awarded to graduating seniors in the Class of 2026, continuing the school’s tradition of recognizing academic achievement and student involvement.

Thank you to everyone for your support of these scholarships and activities for our community ❤️

This past weekend, our students represented Carmel with excellence at the NYSBDA Honor Bands! Ms. Erin Kenny Minieri chaperoned two Carmel High School students as they rehearsed and performed with the High School Honor Band, while Ms. Erika Wahlers supported a George Fischer Middle School student performing with the Middle School Honor Band.
While there, Erin and Erika went above and beyond in their roles—supporting and caring for our students while also taking advantage of valuable professional learning opportunities. They observed rehearsals, attended sessions, performed in a director band during a conducting clinic, connected with music educators from across New York, and enjoyed inspiring guest performances. 👏 Thank you to Erin and Erika for supporting our students and continuing to grow as educators. Opportunities like these strengthen our programs and our entire Carmel music community! 🎶

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed annually on March 21st. The date 3/21 was specifically chosen to represent the “triplication” (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic cause of Down syndrome. 💛💙

2026 Theme: “Together Against Loneliness”: The upcoming theme for 2026 focuses on the impact of loneliness on people with Down syndrome and how communities can combat it together. 💙💛

How do we participate?

Rock Your Socks: The most popular way to participate is by wearing brightly colored, mismatched, or even three socks (to represent three chromosomes). Because chromosomes look like socks under a microscope, this “odd socks” campaign starts conversations and celebrates differences.

Wear your socks on Friday March 20th to school and share photos with CCSD SEPTO

We can not wait to see you ROCK YOUR SOCKS 🧦

The 2026 Annual Battle on Fair Street was another nail biter of a game, with GFMS and CHS battling it out for the coveted trophy 🏀 This year, CHS came out ahead by just a few points to earn the title of 2026 Fair Street champs! Thank you to everyone involved in making this such a wonderful annual event, from the teachers, administrators, and staff members who volunteered to play, the students groups who came to sing, dance, cheer, and perform, our student referees, and course, the packed gymnasium full of students and community members who came to support and watch! March is National Disability Awareness Month. 🤍 CCSD SEPTO has planned many events to help raise awareness for our community.

Our schools all have incredible PTA/PTO organizations in MPES PTO, Kpspto KEPTO GFMS PTA CHS PA, and CCSD SEPTO! Please follow their pages to be kept up to date on all they do to support our students and staff in our buildings. We are so grateful for all of the hard work our parent organizations do to raise awareness, support our students, and provide opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. We > Me đź’™
