❌ MYTH: Prop 137 is just a cover for commercial logging and clear-cutting.
✅ FACT: Forest thinning is an essential wildfire risk-reduction tool, not commercial logging.

❌ MYTH: Forest thinning doesn’t actually stop or slow down wildfires.
✅ FACT: The data proves forest thinning significantly reduces fire severity.

❌ MYTH: There are no guidelines or guardrails on wildfire mitigation.
✅ FACT: Prop 137 includes detailed criteria for project funding.

Without proactive action now, Colorado seriously risks losing its most treasured asset: nature. 🌱 The Nature Conservancy is proud to endorse Proposition 137 for Colorado’s land and water! 📢 Learn more and join the cause at YesOnProp137.com.

It’s estimated that nearly one square mile of land is lost to development every day. And approximately 80% of Colorado’s land lacks permanent protection. Our lands and waters aren’t renewable resources. Once they’re damaged or developed, they are very difficult to recover.

Without raising taxes, this measure will allow the state to keep the money it receives from the existing state sales tax on sporting goods and equipment and invest that money in projects that support new conservation easements, create new state parks, maintain existing trails and infrastructure, restore wildlife habitat, and conserve Colorado’s vast open spaces, while helping to prevent severe wildfires.

Keeping working lands in working hands takes more than conserving the land itself. It means helping the people who steward those lands build businesses that can thrive for generations. 🌾

On Oct. 10 in Hayden, Colorado, The Nature Conservancy is partnering with the Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust (CCALT) and Ranching For Profit for a one-day workshop offering ranchers practical tools in finance, economics, business leadership and succession planning.

This is community-based, smaller scale funding for work on one to 300 acres adjacent to where people live,” said Scott Fitzwilliams, the former head of the White River National Forest, the busiest forest in the nation. “We have got to do something now. The Nature Conservancy is proud to be part of the conservation groups, outdoors advocates, water providers and wildfire-prevention organizations who are supporting Proposition 137, which would divert an estimated $175 million in existing tax revenue each year from sporting goods sales toward fire mitigation, land protection and public access. 🌳
