25/26 Season Recap // THE NUTCRACKER ❄️✨

As we continue looking back on the 2025/26 season, we're revisiting one of our most cherished traditions: The Nutcracker at Macky Auditorium.

Each holiday season, audiences gather to experience the magic, wonder, and timeless storytelling of this beloved classic. From the festive holiday party and the battle with the Mouse King to the enchanting journey through the Land of Sweets, The Nutcracker brought together professional company artists and young dancers from Boulder Ballet School to create a truly unforgettable celebration.

Looking back, we're grateful for every packed theater, every backstage memory, every standing ovation, and every family who made The Nutcracker part of their holiday tradition.

Thank you to our artists, students, staff, volunteers, and audiences for filling Macky Auditorium with joy, wonder, and holiday magic year after year. ❤️

DANCE & WELLNESS RESEARCH STUDY // The results are in — and they're extraordinary 🌟

After 3 years of research in collaboration with CU Boulder & Mental Health Colorado, we can say — without a doubt — that watching live dance makes people feel better.

✨ Here's what we found across 160 audience members and 7 productions:
✨ 98% were emotionally moved
✨ 70% loved how the show made them feel
✨ 69% left with stronger emotional resilience
✨ Anxiety dropped by nearly a full standard deviation

This is why we do what we do. Dance isn't just art — it's medicine for the mind.

25/26 Season Recap // ASCENDING ✨

As we look back on an incredible 2025/26 season, we're returning to where it all began: ASCENDING.

✨ The Vanishing — Choreography by Claudia Anata Hubiak | Composer: Jonas Leuenberger | Violinist: Jeb Bows | Cellist: Jean Hatmaker | Choir: Quorum

From intimate moments of connection to sweeping contemporary works, ASCENDING celebrated the powerful relationship between movement and live music, opening the season with artistry, innovation, and heart.

DANCE DIRECT: SPACE RESIDENCY PROGRAM // “As a freelance dancer, it is instrumental to have affordable access to studio space to work on upcoming projects, to stay in shape, and to stay inspired.”

Meet Emelia Perkins, a recipient of Boulder Ballet’s Dance Direct: Space Residency Program. ✨

Emelia used her residency time in Boulder Ballet’s studios to prepare for an upcoming guest performance with Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s production of Rapunzel—a role that came with a unique challenge:

“I had to learn how to move with a 10 ft long braid! Without this time to practice with the hair, I would likely have been a tangled mess.”

Stories like Emelia’s are exactly why Dance Direct exists. By providing free studio space to dancers, choreographers, educators, and movement artists of all backgrounds and experience levels, the program helps remove barriers to creation and gives artists the room they need to explore, rehearse, develop new work, and pursue opportunities.

If you have a project, an idea, or simply need space to move, create, and grow, we encourage you to apply.

Applications for Boulder Ballet’s Dance Direct: Space Residency Program are now open. Apply today at the link in bio! ➡️
