CU Eco-Social Justice Team We're Part of CU's Environmental Center: Where People and Planet matter

The Eco-Social Justice Team (EJT) of CU Boulder's Environmental Center builds awareness around the ways in which social and ecological issues are intertwined. We host events on campus, training, bring artists and speakers, and work to make eco-social justice a part of the conversation on campus... and beyond. We pay homage to the Environmental Justice (EJ) movement grew in response to polluting i

ndustries and facilities, such as landfills and power plants, being disproportionately located in or near communities of color and low-income communities. As these communities are excessively burdened by pollution and simultaneously experience unequal access to environmental benefits and resources, this movement works to prevent, illuminate and correct these injustices.

Join us tomorrow at 5 pm with Tanner Starbard, director of Farm Planning at Mad Agriculture, for our discussion on regenerative agriculture as it relates to our recovery from the climate crisis.

I am very excited about our discussion tomorrow, as we can take many lessons from the framework of regenerative agriculture. Regenerative agriculture describes farming principles and practices that effectively reverse climate change by pulling carbon from the atmosphere and sequestering it in the ground. Simultaneously, restoring and enriching soil biodiversity and health, gifting our bellies with more nutrient-dense foods. It is truly a beautiful example of a symbiotic relationship and communal care between us and nature.

Join us and Mad Agriculture for an inspiring conversation on regenerative agriculture. We will learn from Tanner Starbard of Mad Agriculture on how to visualize and be a part of a world where people and the Earth's ecosystems are operating in harmony with each other. Mad Agriculture is on a mission....

To decolonize our bodies and minds requires critical engagement with issues around ethical consumption, the food system, and diversity. Join us and Professor Clint Carroll for a discussion of the practice of decolonizing our bodies, and engage in postcolonial education experience (undoing enforced ignorance). We hope we leave you inspired and conscious of how even your choice in food is influenced by history. History and awareness are critical for the just transition to a more sustainable future.

This will be the last solution series for Fall 2020. All CU students and faculty who attend will have the opportunity to sign up to receive a free meal kit to make a delicious recipe from Chef Luz Clavo and Catriona Rueda Esquibel's cookbook, Decolonize Your Diet: Plant-based Mexican-American Recipes for Health and Healing.

Join us and Rosie Briggs of Eco-Cycle TOMORROW at 5pm for a conversation on circular economies–an economy where resources remain in circulation with regenerative earth stewardship. This differs from the “linear economy,” model in which it designates products to eventually go to the landfill at the end of their life. Our discussion on circular economies Thursday will help bring other event conversations to a full circle.

"The Flatirons Food Film Festival (FFFF) is holding an online fundraiser on Saturday, October 10, featuring a screening of a new documentary titled Gather. The film celebrates the beauty and wisdom of indigenous foodways by following the stories of a growing movement to re-connect traditional culinary practices with spiritual and cultural identities that were devastated by genocide. An indigenous chef embarks on an ambitious project to reclaim ancient foodways on an Apache reservation; a gifted Lakota high school student, raised on a buffalo ranch in South Dakota, validates her tribe’s native wisdom through science; and a group of young men of the Yurok tribe in Northern California struggle to keep their culture alive and rehabilitate the habitat of their sacred salmon. "

GATHER is the story of the rebuilding of Native food systems. This feature film is an intimate portrait tracing the intentional destruction of Native America...
