Colorado Ocean Coalition

Colorado Ocean Coalition Until now, there has never been a unified voice for ocean protection in the Mountain States. You don't have to see the ocean to protect it.

The Colorado Chapter of the Inland Ocean Coalition is creating a movement that builds land-to-sea stewardship, because you don't have to see the ocean to protect it. The mission of the Colorado Ocean Coalition is to create, unite and empower a Colorado coalition with shared values, goals and actions to promote healthy oceans through education and community engagement. We are doing this by engaging

scientists, activists, businesses and ocean supporters to address current threats which include:
Watershed Protection and Health
Marine Protected Areas
Climate Change and Ocean Acidification
Sustainable seafood
Special species focus (whales, sharks, tuna, turtles, etc.) Plastics pollution
US National Ocean Policy

A high of 86 degree weather this Saturday, March 21st, 2026 makes spring the perfect reason to join Polar Planet this Saturday morning!

Join Polar Planet for a hands-on trash blitz and community cleanup focused on Barnum Lake and Barnum Park: Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 8am to noon.
We stage ground zero at the Grove St. culdesac: 400 Grove St. Denver CO 80204.

We trash blitz (eliminate litter) utilizing trash pickers, buckets, and bags to dispose into dumpsters to support urban wildlife conservation and clean parks.
We have plenty of waders to do the shoreline and 2 SUP’s to float the pond as there will be lots of water after this snow melts, moving trash downstream.

This event is perfect for anyone looking to make a positive impact on the local environment and contribute to improving the ambiance of Barnum Park.

Our grassroots organization will now also steward 2 flower beds in addition to our 5+ years of stewarding Weir Gulch from the S. Platte River to Sheridan Blvd!
In addition to our regular schedule, (see attached) we are collaborating with DPR to trash blitz Huston Lake on 4/11/26 and Paco Sanchez Park in May!
Just show up this Saturday morning at Barnum Park, or

RSVP on Meetup:

Hear him give insights on his background working with livestock in the Southwest as a chaplain connects through his current work with supporting farmers and ranchers through mental health struggles.

Then, learn from Program Manager Nick Kemble about how you can support your community health while collecting plastic litter – and data – with the TrashBlitz app.

Today is World Wetlands Day.

Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems on Earth. They filter water, store carbon, protect communities from flooding, and provide critical habitat for fish, birds, and wildlife.

Yet more than half of the world’s wetlands have been lost in the past century.

From coastal marshes and mangroves to inland floodplains and riparian zones, these systems connect land and sea, and our actions upstream directly affect ocean health.

Protecting wetlands means protecting food systems, biodiversity, climate resilience, and frontline communities.

At Inland Ocean Coalition, we work to highlight these connections and support solutions that safeguard watersheds from land to sea.

Today, and every day, wetlands deserve our attention, investment, and protection.

Stand with the Pacific: Protect the Deep Ocean. 💙

From American Samoa to Guam and Hawai‘i, US Pacific states and territories have banned or restricted deep-sea mining in their waters. Despite this, the Trump administration is looking at mining near the Mariana Trench. It’s time for the federal government to listen to the people most impacted. The health of the deep sea is tied to all life on Earth—don’t let short-sighted mining proposals threaten our planet’s vital cycles. Comment now! Link in Bio
