Today is World Oceans Day, and we’ve been thinking about something we say often at Inland Ocean Coalition: you don’t have to live on the coast to care for the ocean.
The truth is that every river, creek, stream, and watershed connects us to the sea. The choices we make in our communities and how we manage water, grow food, reduce pollution, and engage in conservation, ripple far beyond where we live.
What gives us hope is that ocean protection is not something any one organization can accomplish alone. The impact we make is possible because of the incredible network of partners, volunteers, scientists, educators, advocates, farmers, fishermen, students, Tribal leaders, community groups, and supporters who work alongside us every day.
From watershed restoration projects and plastic pollution solutions to ocean-friendly farming, policy advocacy, youth education, and community science, our partnerships allow us to connect local action with global impact. Together, we are building a movement that recognizes that healthy oceans begin with healthy communities upstream.
On World Oceans Day, we’re celebrating everyone who helps turn concern into action and reminds us that meaningful change happens when people come together around a shared vision for the future.
No matter where you live, you are connected to the ocean. And together, we can make a difference.
Happy World Oceans Day from all of us at Inland Ocean Coalition.
