Colorado Ocean Coalition

Colorado Ocean Coalition Until now, there has never been a unified voice for ocean protection in the Mountain States. You don't have to see the ocean to protect it.

The Colorado Chapter of the Inland Ocean Coalition is creating a movement that builds land-to-sea stewardship, because you don't have to see the ocean to protect it. The mission of the Colorado Ocean Coalition is to create, unite and empower a Colorado coalition with shared values, goals and actions to promote healthy oceans through education and community engagement. We are doing this by engaging

scientists, activists, businesses and ocean supporters to address current threats which include:
Watershed Protection and Health
Marine Protected Areas
Climate Change and Ocean Acidification
Sustainable seafood
Special species focus (whales, sharks, tuna, turtles, etc.) Plastics pollution
US National Ocean Policy
Join us to figure out how we can help the ocean from a mile high! The Colorado Ocean Coalition is a chapter of the Inland Ocean Coalition

Nature gives us so much, from cleaner air and water to spaces that support our physical and mental well-being. By spending time outdoors, we build a stronger connection to the environment and become better stewards of the places we love.

Whether you’re exploring a local park, walking along a creek, or joining a community cleanup, every action helps protect our shared waterways. Remember: all water connects to the ocean.

Plastic-Free July is here! 🌊♻️

Plastic-Free July is a global movement that encourages all of us to use less single-use plastic, one small change at a time.

Whether it’s bringing a reusable water bottle, carrying a reusable shopping bag, or saying no to plastic straws, every choice can make a difference.

You don’t have to be perfect. Just start with one simple swap. Small actions, repeated by many people, can create a big impact for our rivers, lakes, and oceans.

What plastic-free swap will you make this month? Tell us in the comments! 🩵

Today is World Oceans Day, and we’ve been thinking about something we say often at Inland Ocean Coalition: you don’t have to live on the coast to care for the ocean.

The truth is that every river, creek, stream, and watershed connects us to the sea. The choices we make in our communities and how we manage water, grow food, reduce pollution, and engage in conservation, ripple far beyond where we live.

What gives us hope is that ocean protection is not something any one organization can accomplish alone. The impact we make is possible because of the incredible network of partners, volunteers, scientists, educators, advocates, farmers, fishermen, students, Tribal leaders, community groups, and supporters who work alongside us every day.

From watershed restoration projects and plastic pollution solutions to ocean-friendly farming, policy advocacy, youth education, and community science, our partnerships allow us to connect local action with global impact. Together, we are building a movement that recognizes that healthy oceans begin with healthy communities upstream.

On World Oceans Day, we’re celebrating everyone who helps turn concern into action and reminds us that meaningful change happens when people come together around a shared vision for the future.

No matter where you live, you are connected to the ocean. And together, we can make a difference.

Happy World Oceans Day from all of us at Inland Ocean Coalition.
