Last week, MASSCreative was proud to participate in the Creative Labor Summit at Boston Public Library through our work with the Arts Activate Boston Coalition.

The Creative Labor Summit was part of a two-day convening hosted by Company One Theatre, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and the Boston Public Library, with support from the Barr Foundation, to explore policy solutions that would support better wages, housing, healthcare costs, and working conditions for creatives. This event was the first of four summits that Arts Activate Boston is curating to mobilize arts advocates around policy proposals that will strengthen Boston’s creative workforce.

Congratulations to the Creative Labor Summit co-hosts and host committee for mobilizing ~300 advocates!

Subscribe to Arts Activate Boston’s email list to learn more about upcoming summits.

We applaud the Healey-Driscoll Administration for using public art to support community well-being and connection at state-aided public housing developments.

Funding will support community centers, outdoor gathering spaces and public art in 10 local housing authorities

Hosting Helena, Lolan, and Althea from the National Arts Policy Alliance (NAPA) at our office today felt a little like having a family reunion. It's a joy sharing space with organizers who get just as excited as we do talking about policy strategies to support artists.

We're excited to grow this partnership with NAPA to deliver for the creative sector.

Next week is National Arts in Education Week!

Arts education is a proven driver of student achievement, creativity, and workforce readiness.

But right now, arts education is under threat. Federal funding that supports arts education in schools nationwide through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) faces drastic cuts in FY2027. Advocacy is needed to maintain Congress' support for the NEA.

Threats to arts education = threats to accessing arts degrees, including at HBCUs, threatening pathways into creative work for the next generation of artists and leaders.

We’re urging Congress to honor National Arts in Education Week by fully funding arts education’s five federal funding streams, saving the NEA from closure, and protecting access to arts degrees for every student.
