Sometimes it’s the smallest things that tell the biggest stories.

This is a cigar box that sits in the living room at Finca Vigía with the inscription: “Ernest Hemingway Gran Amigo De Cuba.” Jaime Bofill. 🇨🇺🇺🇸

Simple words, but they say so much about Hemingway’s connection to Cuba and the unique bond between a legendary American writer and the island that inspired so much of his life and work.
It is a wonderful reminder that literature, friendship, and shared heritage transcends borders.

Will you help us complete a critical project at Ernest Hemingway’s beloved Finca Vigía?

The damaging effects of humidity, termites, hurricanes and intense tropical sunlight have put the house and collections within at risk.

To help mitigate this problem our Foundation will soon export six historically accurate, hurricane- and termite-resistant windows to replace the most severely damaged units. Our team of US-based experts is ready to travel to Havana this summer for the installation.

We need your help to complete this phase of the project.

Life inspires art, and art inspires us! Ernest Hemingway’s fishing life in Cuba inspired him to write ‘The Old Man and the Sea’. His work continues to influence students and artists across generations.

Finca Vigía is an irreplaceable cultural landmark and an important part of the local community, offering a place of reflection, creativity, and connection to literary history. The artwork in the first photo was created by local schoolchildren after they read Old Man and the Sea, and it was exhibited at Finca Vigía.
