Big news: Faithify is evolving!
The Unitarian Universalist Association launched Faithify in 2014 as a bridge from analog stewardship methods to online direct fundraising. Back then, most UU’s were new to online giving. As the first denominational crowdfunding platform, we learned together and helped raise more than $2.8 million for Unitarian Universalist projects while resourcing hundreds of UU congregations, individuals, and organizations around the globe. In the process, Faithify became a trusted name in UU fundraising assisting diverse projects ranging from congregations providing sanctuary for refugees and originating the Building Beloved Community Beyond the Binary conference to empowering our UU State Action Networks in their work to ensure justice and democracy. Faithify campaigns originating from UU’s all over the globe have allowed contributors to reach beyond familiar geography and expand their network of community.
In significant ways the landscape of fundraising has changed. We are grateful that many good crowdfunding options now exist, building on the lead of programs like our own. Our collective interests have also shifted. Last year Faithify and the UU Funding Program convened a Meet the Moment Wave cohort, bringing a diverse group of leaders together to examine current stewardship needs and make recommendations for how the UUA might best serve Unitarian Universalist fundraising into the future.
Our Wave cohort strongly agreed that operating our own crowdfunding platform is no longer the most faithful use of UUA resources. Instead, the Wave recommended that we focus on work only the UUA can offer such as increased training for UUA staff to support congregations and development of new resources for lay and professional leaders using liberatory stewardship practices. Concentrating on these elements fulfills Faithify’s founding mission to build fundraising capacity in Unitarian Universalism.
Faithify has twelve years of experience partnering with UU’s to accomplish their fundraising goals. This Spring, Faithify will carry that expertise to a new format as part of our UUA Congregational Life Leadership Team with an explicit mission to support thriving congregational stewardship. Supporting congregational stewardship efforts is the most useful work Faithify can bring to today’s UUA.
Over the next few months, crowdfunding campaigns on faithify.org will end and the crowdfunding platform will close, allowing staff to concentrate on creating new resources, trainings, and opportunities for stewardship ministries. We are excited for this shift and for the opportunity to work more closely with leaders, building abundance and fostering the joy of generosity in our congregations.
