If you haven’t made it to a North Carolina BHA event yet, you need to. This past weekend’s Uwharrie Round-Up camping trip was a terrific example of how much fun it is when BHA members get together and swap skills, stories and side dishes. A special thank you to the Brady Boys for running the smoker and all the workshop presenters for their time and generosity. It’s not “all work and no play” around here, that’s for sure. Hope to see you at the next one.

Do you love fishing for sporty marine species? Do you want to take your kids fishing for Wahoo, Dolphinfish, or Atlantic Bonito one day? Do you want to learn how YOU can contribute to marine species conservation? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you need to tune into to our next Fish, Fur, and Feather seminar on May 11th from 8:15 - 9:15 PM. We will be hearing from Jacqui Degan, a Marine Fisheries Biologist for the NC Division of Marine Fisheries and the Species Lead for some of your favorite marine sportfish! She will be telling us all about the management of marine species, and how different types of sampling (including data submitted by recreational anglers!) informs better fisheries management. We hope to see you there!

At this capital area pint night, we host Brad Howard, the Wildlife Management Division Chief of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Brad manages all of the wildlife biologists within the commision. He will talk about issues and trends impacting wildlife with the state.

BHA Pint Nights are relaxed and welcoming gatherings for hunters, anglers, hikers, and anyone who cares about the future of our wild public lands and waters to meet and discuss the latest issues affecting our shared resources. It’s a great chance to meet fellow outdoorsmen and women, swap hunting and fishing stories from past adventures, and connect with others who believe in protecting access to the places we all love to hunt, fish, and explore.

When: May 28th, 6:30-9PM

Where: Trophy Brewing & Taproom, 656 Maywood Avenue, Raleigh, NC

Join North Carolina Backcountry Hunters & Anglers for a special pint night at featuring author Neil Norman . Neil will be discussing his new book, Tight Lines and Tall Tales, a deep dive into the rich and often overlooked tradition of fly fishing in Southern Appalachia. Blending archival research, personal experience, and oral histories, the book traces the region’s angling heritage—from early figures like Mark Cathey to the modern era shaped by conservation groups like Trout Unlimited. More than just a history of fishing, Neil’s work explores the culture, ecology, and storytelling that define Southern Appalachian waters, offering a fresh perspective on a region often misunderstood as merely a tourist destination. Come out for a great evening of conversation, community, and cold drinks. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

NC BHA is proud to announce its continuing collaboration with Black Label Consignment. This fall, our organization will receive 50% of all proceeds from NC BHA donated men’s apparel items. The 4-day Black Label consignment sale takes place in November in the Charlotte area. Bring your lightly-worn, clean, name-brand hunting gear to Round Up this weekend and we’ll make sure it gets included in the sale. Turn your closet clutter into money that will help NC BHA continue to fight for public lands, good access and science-based wildlife management.

Welcome to our 3rd Annual North Carolina BHA Round Up!

This event is meant as the one time of year we get together with no other motive than to meet our members from across the State. The event will take place from April 24th at 4pm - April 26th at 10:00am at the Badin Lake Group Campsite. We have rented the ENTIRE group campsite this year and you are encouraged to bring your entire family. Kids and dogs are welcome!! The campsite is broken into three camping areas, with a large green space in the middle. The campground rests in the heart of the Uwharrie National Forest and is nearby to Badin Lake.
