Home to Hickory Ridge History Museum and six historic Appalachian cabins. 74th season opens June 26, 2026. Produced since 1952 by the Southern Appalachian Historical Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Horn in the West is the nation's only outdoor drama focused on the American Revolution. Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the drama follows the courageous pioneers and frontier sett

lers who fought for American independence in the Southern Appalachian backcountry. The Southern Appalachian Historical Association celebrates and preserves the diverse cultural heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountain region. Through historical education, community events, and cultural programming, SAHA connects audiences of all ages to the stories and traditions that shaped this remarkable corner of America. Hickory Ridge History Museum invites guests to step back in time and explore the rich culture of the Appalachian Mountains. The museum features a collection of historic log cabins that originated in Watauga County, at least one of which is believed to date to the late 1700s, and brings early mountain life to life through guided tours, living history demonstrations, and hands-on programming.

250 years ago, the people of the Southern Appalachian backcountry made a choice that helped change the world.

They left behind safety and comfort to fight for something they believed in. This summer, as the nation marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Horn in the West tells their story, on the same land their descendants still call home, in a production that has been bringing that story to life since 1952.

There has never been a more meaningful summer to see this show!
Opening night is June 26th. Tickets at horninthewest.com.

Meet the man behind the 2026 season of Horn in the West: David Doersch!

David is a director, author, and fight choreographer with decades of experience at regional theatres and Shakespeare festivals from coast to coast. You may know his work from Marvel Universe Live and Jurassic World Live Tour, where he served as casting director, stunt coordinator, and fight director for two of the largest touring stunt shows in the world.

Now he is bringing all of that to the Daniel Boone Amphitheater in Boone, NC for our America 250 season.

In David's own words: "It's an honor to be entrusted with this production. It has such a storied history and has become such an integral part of the warp and weft of this community."

We could not agree more. Opening night is June 26th. Tickets at horninthewest.com.
