HabCenter Boca Raton Our mission is to equip people with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to lead useful and productive lives with dignity, respect and independence.

How it All Started

In the 1970s, vocational training was offered at the far end of Palm Beach County. Due to the distance, families in Boca Raton and nearby areas found it difficult to send their family members there. In 1973, 12 acres of land on Boca Rio Road was donated by the Palm Beach County Commission. This was the beginning of the Habilitation Center for the Handicapped, Inc. (HabCenter). The funding for the building was provided by contributions from families, area residents, and governmental agencies. Finally, in October 1978, the HabCenter opened its doors to all adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. Since then the HabCenter has been accomplishing its mission – equip people with the knowledge, skills and behaviors needed to lead useful and productive lives with dignity, respect and independence – because of all the support from all of our dedicated board members, staff, interns, volunteers, families, friends, funding and donors. Present Day

HabCenter serves adults with lifelong developmental and intellectual disabilities. The Center provides a full-time day program of comprehensive services (including mental/behavioral health, job training and placement, and educational and recreational activities) to enable clients to maximize their potential and live with fulfillment and joy. Client-centered Programs Offered at the HabCenter:

Supported vocational training and opportunity through two enterprises, HabCo Manufacturing or HabCenter Plant Nursery. Comprehensive behavioral education and support services through our Social Services Department. Comprehensive Programs in Education, Arts, and Recreation (P.E.A.R.). HabCenter offers a fully integrated response to client needs by providing comprehensive, individually tailored vocational training, supported employment, and wrap-around services. Through these activities, clients improve mental and physical health, expand skills sets and knowledge, build friendships, and make progress towards greater independence. World Mental Health Day reminds us that mental well-being is just as important as physical health. At HabCenter, we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to feel connected, supported, valued, and empowered. By fostering meaningful relationships, purposeful activities, and an inclusive community, we help create an environment where people can thrive.

What an incredible morning at the Angels of Provision 5K this past weekend! 🏃‍♀️✨
A huge, heartfelt thank you to Kelita Vaughn, and the team at Angels of Provision for generously sponsoring a table for HabCenter. The energy was electric, and the community response was truly overwhelming.

We loved meeting every runner, walker, and supporter who stopped by to chat. Our CEO, Sherry A. Henry racked up some “HabStepping” points (inside joke). Having the chance to share our mission—and showcase our beautiful nursery plants and HabBeeLity honey—made the day unforgettable. Every conversation reminded us how powerful community support really is.

For nearly five decades, HabCenter has been building a community where every individual is encouraged to discover their strengths, develop new skills, pursue greater independence, and reach their fullest potential. Through programs including Vocational training at HabCo Manufacturinga and HabBloom Plant Nursery, Mental Health Services, and PEAR and STEAM Program, HabCenter provides meaningful opportunities for learning, employment, creativity, personal growth, and connection. Every program, every opportunity, and every accomplishment helps create a more inclusive community where individuals can be seen for their abilities and supported in achieving their goals.

Today, on National Manufacturing Day, we celebrate the people, purpose, and possibilities behind manufacturing.

At HabCenter, HabCo Manufacturing is about so much more than what is produced. It is about creating meaningful opportunities for adults with developmental differences and mental health challenges to learn valuable vocational skills, gain hands on work experience, build confidence, earn income, and take meaningful steps toward greater independence.

This year, we were especially proud to see that impact recognized when HabCo Manufacturing was named a finalist for the 2026 Manufacturer of the Year Awards presented by the South Florida Manufacturers Association. Being recognized alongside outstanding manufacturers throughout South Florida was a meaningful reflection of the dedication, teamwork, and heart that our HabCo team brings to their work every day. Behind every product is a person learning, contributing, growing, and discovering what they are capable of achieving.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to recognize the value, talent, and contributions of people with disabilities in the workforce. At HabCenter, we believe meaningful employment creates opportunities for growth, independence, and community inclusion. We are proud to support individuals as they build skills, pursue their goals, and thrive in the workplace.

As disability rights advocate Judith Heumann once said, “Disability only becomes a tragedy when society fails to provide the things we need to lead our lives.” Her words remind us that creating inclusive workplaces is not just the right thing to do, it strengthens our communities and allows everyone the opportunity to succeed.

This month and throughout the year, HabCenter remains committed to expanding opportunities and celebrating the abilities and achievements of the individuals we serve.

Thankful Thursdays Spotlight! We are incredibly grateful to the Suerth Family Charitable Fund for their generous donation to support HabCenter's HabBeeLity Honey Program.

Our HabBeeLity Honey Program provides individuals with developmental differences and mental health challenges the opportunity to learn about bee farming, hive management, honey harvesting, and the vital role pollinators play in our ecosystem. Through these hands-on experiences, participants develop valuable life and vocational skills, build confidence, increase independence, and strengthen connections with their community and the natural world.

This generous gift will help ensure the continued growth of a program that empowers our individuals through meaningful learning experiences while promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability. Every hive, every harvest, and every jar of honey represent opportunity, achievement, and inclusion. We are deeply grateful to the Suerth Family Charitable Fund for investing in this program and we are especially proud that this generous support comes from a HabCenter team member, Christy Suerth, whose family's commitment to community impact is helping create meaningful opportunities for the individuals we serve.

HabCenter is proud to partner with Lynn University through its Social Impact Project, a collaborative initiative involving the Social Impact Program, Library, Student Affairs, and Administration. The three-week program brings together education, community engagement, and meaningful acts of service to create a positive impact.

As part of this incredible partnership, the HabCenter team presented to Lynn University students and professors about HabCenter, our programs, mental wellness, and nutrition. Following the presentation, the Lynn University community came together to create and hand-deliver 100 mental wellness kits to HabCenter program individuals, providing thoughtful resources and encouragement to support their mental well-being.

We are incredibly grateful to the students and professors who dedicated their time, compassion, and energy to making this project meaningful. A special thank you to Dr. Antonella Regueiro, whose passion for addressing social issues and creating impactful opportunities for students continues to strengthen our community.

We are honored to be part of this meaningful partnership with Lynn University and grateful for the difference it makes in the lives of the individuals we serve.

As Yom Kippur begins, HabCenter wishes for a meaningful and peaceful day to all who observe. This sacred Day of Atonement is a time for reflection, forgiveness, and renewal. It reminds us of the importance of compassion, understanding, and the shared responsibility we have to support one another.
