THE LAST BEAGLES HAVE LEFT RIDGLAN FARMS!

This is the moment we have worked toward: After six decades, one of America’s largest suppliers of dogs for laboratory testing is disappearing.

The Center for a Humane Economy initiated and led negotiations that secured the release of the first 1,635 beagles, helping set in motion an outcome that ultimately removed more than 2,100 dogs from Ridglan and the laboratory-animal pipeline.

This historic achievement belongs to many: advocates, rescue organizations, attorneys, Special Prosecutor Tim Gruenke, and everyone who refused to accept the status quo.

Today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we keep working toward the larger goal: ending the use of dogs and other animals in testing when superior alternatives are available.

Cruelty-Free Medicines: New Campaign Launch Coming Soon!

Ever notice how your shampoo can proudly say “cruelty-free” with a leaping bunny, but your medicine never will? That’s not an accident.

The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938 mandated animal testing for drugs, and drug screening still accounts for roughly 75% of all animal testing in this country. That’s exactly why operations like Ridglan Farms and Marshall BioResources have been breeding beagles to ship off to labs.

We’re changing that.

With the FDA Modernization Act 2.0 in 2022 and now the FDA Modernization Act 3.0 just passed, we’ve eliminated the animal testing mandate. That’s why the Center for a Humane Economy and Animal Wellness Action are about to launch our new Cruelty-Free Medicines Campaign, building on our broader Modernized Testing Campaign.

Regulators need to move, and pharma companies need to commit to ending animal testing for good. We hope you’re with us.

But while Belgium celebrated a place in the quarterfinals, the biggest winner of this World Cup was all about the footwear. For years, kangaroo skins from Australia were used to make soccer cleats.

Just months after Korean Air agreed to stop transporting fighting birds from the U.S. to the Philippines, investigators uncovered a new loophole.

Instead of flying directly to Manila, traffickers are now shipping fighting birds on Korean Air flights to Vietnam, where they're transferred to another airline for the final leg to the Philippines.

Changing the route doesn't change the crime.

The Center for a Humane Economy is calling on Korean Air to permanently prohibit shipments of mature gamefowl from the United States to any destination in Asia.

The movement to end horse slaughter is gaining momentum.

In a letter to President Trump, 17 Republican members of Congress urged the Administration to make its suspension of horse exports to Mexico permanent.

The lawmakers pointed to biosecurity risks posed by New World Screwworm and questioned why American horses should continue to be shipped long distances for slaughter when they serve no agricultural purpose and are not raised for food in the United States.

This is more than an animal welfare issue. It's about protecting horses, safeguarding agriculture, and ending a trade that most Americans oppose.

The most important animal welfare provision in the Senate Farm Bill draft may be the one that isn't there.

Senate leaders left out the "Save Our Bacon Act"—a sweeping proposal that would have wiped out state farm animal welfare laws, including California's Proposition 12 and Massachusetts' Question 3.

That's good news for consumers, family farmers, and the millions of Americans who voted for stronger protections for farm animals.

A teenager is dead. A carriage horse is dead. And New York City is once again confronting a reality it has ignored for far too long.

Just days after carriage horse Deniz collapsed and died, an 18-year-old suffered fatal injuries after a horse reportedly became frightened and bolted during a carriage ride in Central Park.

These incidents are not isolated. They are the predictable consequences of forcing horses to navigate crowded streets, traffic, noise, and chaos in the largest city in America.

The question is no longer whether this industry is outdated.

The question is how many more tragedies it will take before city leaders finally end it.

New York should immediately halt horse-drawn carriage operations and move forward with a permanent transition away from this dangerous and inhumane practice.
