“Seeing Tatá step into this space with her own voice was one of those moments that reminds us why this work matters.”

Our colleague Renata recently represented Global Communities Brasil at Territórios em Rede ("Networked Territories" in Portuguese) in Brasília. Alongside Tatá, a community communicator with Projeto Reciclar, she joined 100 communicators from 50 organizations at the start of a six-month learning journey.

For Renata, the most meaningful part of the experience was seeing Tatá share her community’s story and be recognized as a leader.

Tatá is the protagonist of her own journey. Her experience reminds us that communication is a right and that when young people recognize the power of their stories, they can help ensure their communities are heard.

Disaster risk reduction starts with understanding what puts people at risk, then working together to change it.

Throughout our history, Global Communities has helped communities and local partners around the world to:

💧 Protect watersheds and critical infrastructure

🚨 Equip community teams to act when emergencies happen

From informal settlements and rural communities to displacement camps and families preparing at home, our work is shaped by local risks, knowledge and leadership.

Reducing disaster risk hinges on the sustained work of making homes, livelihoods, and essential systems safer before crisis strikes.

Three years since October 7, 2023, we remember all those who lost their lives and recognize the profound suffering experienced by civilians and families across Palestine, Israel, and the wider region.

In Gaza, where Global Communities has worked since 1994, the crisis is deeply personal for our colleagues and partners. They are members of the communities they serve, facing extraordinary uncertainty and caring for their own families while continuing to deliver lifesaving assistance to those in need under extraordinarily difficult conditions.

Throughout 2025, Global Communities and its partners have helped more than 1 million people access urgently needed emergency food assistance. In the final quarter alone, our teams provided specialized nutritional supplements to more than 103,000 women and children. Alongside emergency relief, we helped local organizations and businesses drive recovery efforts in their own communities. By October 2025, our Gaza Grant Facility had supported 45 local businesses and civil society organizations, sustaining livelihoods and enabling essential food and water services to reach displaced communities.

As we mark this solemn anniversary, we stand with our colleagues, partners and the communities they serve. While meeting immediate needs in Gaza remains essential, long-term recovery will depend on restoring essential services, rebuilding livelihoods and investing in solutions shaped by communities themselves.

A restored school is a sign that life is beginning again, hope renewed.

After returning to her village in Syria, teacher Fadia was energized with purpose in helping students build healthier, brighter futures. Her story is a reminder that teachers do more than share knowledge. They help communities recover, rebuild and imagine what comes next.

This World Teachers’ Day, we honor educators like Fadia whose commitment creates pathways forward, even in the most challenging circumstances.

John Deere volunteers from Granadero Baigorria, Las Rosas and Campana joined the Municipality and Baigorria Verde to plant 26 native trees in Plaza de Nuestra Señora de la Paz.

The new trees will help support local biodiversity and improve environmental quality. The day also brought employees from different locations together around a shared purpose: contributing to more sustainable communities.

A homemade ball became part of a new daily routine for Jovin and his young son.

Before joining Familia Imara, Jovin rarely played with his child or understood why responding to his emotional needs mattered. Through parenting sessions, he learned practical ways to support his son’s development, safety and well-being.

Now, Jovin makes time to play with his son every day after work. He and his wife also communicate more patiently, provide closer supervision and work together to create a safer, more caring home.

We're excited to announce a new partnership between Global Communities and Guinness Ghana to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in communities in Ghana.

Through this collaboration, Global Communities will support improvements to water and sanitation infrastructure in Alogboshie and Kaase, including rehabilitated facilities, expanded access to safe water, new handwashing stations, and community-led sanitation activities. We will also lead behavior change and advocacy activities to help ensure these systems are maintained and continue benefiting communities well into the future.

Strong partnerships are essential to creating lasting change. We are grateful to Guinness Ghana for its commitment to healthier communities and look forward to working together to strengthen WASH services and promote healthier futures for children, families, and communities.

Returning home is the beginning of a much longer process.

Families need clean water. They need safe housing, functioning markets, food, and ways to earn an income. Farmers need seeds, tools, and working irrigation systems. Children need schools where they can learn again.

Since 2014, Global Communities has supported 2.65 million people in Syria, including displaced families, returnees, and the communities receiving them.

Sometimes it's a savings group.

Sometimes it's a healthier home.

Sometimes it's food on the table during a difficult season.

Sometimes it's neighbors who know how to respond when an emergency happens.

Across 46 communities in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, Podemos Más brought these pieces together. The project reached more than 20,000 participants through a combination of food assistance, economic recovery activities, shelter improvements, nutrition support, and community-led preparedness efforts.

Strong communities are built in many different ways. Often, the most important work happens through local relationships, practical solutions, and people looking out for one another.
