The Minha Primeira Infância project is back for its third year, bringing vibrant educational and cultural experiences to 496 children in Catalão, Brazil!

This year’s secret ingredient? A "Literary Trail." Each month, a children's book becomes the guiding thread for weekly interactive workshops, blending storytelling, music, creative play, and movement to make learning deeply meaningful.

The 2026 impact so far:
👩‍🏫 69 local educators trained in the art of play and creative storytelling.
⏱️ 150+ hours of workshops delivered across 28 classrooms.
🛠️ Outdoor spaces & playgrounds being revitalized right now with new active play circuits.

In partnership with the Ministry of Culture and John Deere, Global Communities Brazil is proud to help build welcoming, inspiring spaces where the next generation can thrive.

Conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability are straining the systems that bring food from farms to families. When these systems break down, hunger rises, but by strengthening how food is grown, moved, and accessed, we work alongside partners to help communities stay nourished and build more resilient futures.

On a sunny morning in Southern California, strollers roll along a neighborhood path. Parents walk side by side, some meeting for the first time and others greeting familiar faces. Conversations flow easily about newborn sleep, feeding, fears, and joy. Nearby, a community midwife answers questions without rush or judgment.

This is the Global Communities Healthy Start San Bernardino Healthy Steps, Happy Families initiative — a community walk series designed to bring pregnant and postpartum families together in a way that feels natural, supportive, and welcoming.

Because no one should have to navigate the parenting journey alone.

Ever wondered about our history? We were founded in 1952 as a grassroots housing initiative helping build houses for people in need and have since grown into a global force for development and humanitarian response — advancing change in over 50 countries worldwide.

From establishing a floating health clinic in Hong Kong in the 1960's to helping families rebuild post-earthquake in Haiti in the 2000's, and so many moments in between, our rich experience has touched millions of lives across the globe.

In the Western Highlands of Guatemala, the path to maternal healthcare is often blocked by steep mountain roads, long distances, and limited transportation. For many expectant mothers, reaching skilled care in a moment of crisis can feel impossible.

But for Helen, the journey was different because the doors of Casa Materna were open.

When Helen faced a high-risk pregnancy, Casa Materna provided sanctuary. While her newborn daughter underwent lifesaving surgeries for a complex condition, Helen had a safe place to stay just steps from the hospital. At Casa Materna, she received postpartum care, nourishing meals, clean water, and the newborn support she needed to stay present for her baby every day.

For over 25 years, Casa Materna has served more than 125,000 women without a single maternal death. This record is a testament to the power of community-led health solutions and the unwavering support of people who believe every birth should be safe.

Every mother and child deserve a healthy start.

$326 billion. That’s the amount currently sitting in donor advised funds (DAFs) nationwide.

We’re excited to join the movement to help move those resources toward the communities that need them most. From now until October 8th, donors who commit to spending down half of their DAF balance can help Global Communities secure matching grants of up to $25,000.

It’s a simple way to double your impact.

Too often, preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth come down to gaps in care, especially in remote, under-supported areas.

Strengthening midwife‑led models helps close those gaps, and bring continuity, trust, and quality care to women and newborns when it matters most. Their dedication and compassion saves lives.

Do you know the secret to building a successful health program? Effective communication.

That's why we trained nearly 7,000 Ghanian frontline health workers in risk communication, equipping them to listen in their communities, respond to concerns about health interventions, and share accurate information in ways that resonated locally.

In southern Madagascar, rural schools face chronic water challenges caused by prolonged drought and limited water infrastructure, conditions that threaten student wellbeing, school attendance, and learning.

Through our school meals program, Mianatra, parents are producing chlorine locally to help schools treat their own water, reducing illness and keeping students healthy and present in class.

It’s a reminder that sustainable progress happens when communities have the tools, knowledge, and trust to lead solutions themselves.

The 2025 AfriScout Impact Evaluation found that in AfriScout Regen areas, there was a 44% increase in cattle reported in "good condition" compared to non-participating areas. With better data, pastoralists can make better grazing plans, which leads to improved nutrition for livestock.

Protecting the environment is an important part of this work, but it isn’t the end goal on its own. Healthier rangelands support higher milk production, more stable household income, and stronger futures for pastoralist families, making it possible for them to continue caring for the land they depend on, generation after generation.
