Bennington Area Trail System - BATS

Bennington Area Trail System - BATS Board Meetings - Second Wednesday of each month, 6:30 PM at the Bike Hub. This will help us maintain the trails not just for biking, but for multi-use!

BATS trails are pvt property &
are a privilege not a right; a friendly
smile & wave goes a long way. The Bennington Area Trail System (BATS) is located in the beautiful southwestern corner of Vermont. BATS was founded by a group of local bikers, runners, and hikers that advocate for multi-use singletrack trails for the enjoyment of area residents and visitors alike. As a non-profit 501 (c)(3), BAT

S works with public and private landowners to plan, build, and maintain trails for sustainable, non-motorized use in and around the Bennington, Vermont area. BATS is a proud chapter of the Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA), which helps support our chapter with grants and other resources that are important to our current and future success. Please consider becoming a BATS member by joining the Vermont Mountain Bike Association and choosing BATS as your local chapter! Thank you! www.vmba.org

Rifle Season starts today (Saturday, 11/15), which results in in the closure of some trails on the south end of the network, namely Flat Tire, Running Bear, Jacobs Ladder, and Mountain Dew above/south of the intersection of Cascades. Please respect these trail closures for your safety and to share the woods for a few weeks with our fellow outdoor enthusiasts. The rest of our trails will remain open, but please wear bright colors anyways!

Late summer means active wasps and ground bees! There is an active nest somewhere near the trail to Zaphod's Overlook just past the intersection with Zaphod's Run with a pair of hikers being stung multiple times late yesterday afternoon. We will try to find/eliminate the nest ASAP (the nest was not seen and could be off-trail as the hikers had dogs with them that could have triggered the nest). Be careful out there, and if you find a nest, please report it via FB Messenger or by sending us an email at [email protected]. Thanks!

Thanks to The Bike Hub, Stratton Mountain Resort, and Vermont Mountain Bike Association for repping, Zero Gravity Craft Brewery for refreshments, and State Line for keeping us entertained when we weren't out on the trails. Hope to see you all again soon!
