Looking for Louisiana native plants just outside of Baton Rouge?
For our next Local Connections spotlight, meet Beaver’s Abundance, a native plant nursery run by Fabiola and Ian.
They started in their backyard in 2021 and now have a storefront at 17873 Old Jefferson Hwy in Prairieville. They sell Louisiana native plants and run an eco-boutique featuring locally made goods and sustainable home essentials.
One plant in their inventory they highly recommend is Turk’s cap. “It’s the plant that really opened our eyes to the beauty, hardiness and pollinator potential that native plants bring,” they told us. They’ve enjoyed seeing hummingbirds and Gulf fritillary butterflies visit its blooms at the nursery.
The nursery is now open seven days a week, dawn to dusk, with a simple smartphone self-checkout system that allows customers to shop at their convenience. The EcoBoutique is open Wednesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., when staff are also available to assist with nursery needs, answer plant questions, and offer guidance. They can also arrange delivery for larger orders within roughly 100 miles.
