LDEQ has posted a public comment notice for a draft revision of the Total Daily Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Plan for Bayou Verret, Bayou Chevreuil, Bayou Citamon, and Grand Bayou (Subsegment 010201) for Biochemical Oxygen-Demanding Substances. Comment deadline is April 23, 2026.

The Draft Atchafalaya Basin Master Plan, included in the Draft CPRA FY27 Annual Plan, includes two important projects in the Upper Terrebonne Basin:

The Draft Louisiana 2026 Integrated Report on Water Quality is out for public comment. Deadline 1/30/26.

Several watersheds in the Upper Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary Basin are highlighted:

Bayou Verret, Bayou Chevreuil, Bayou Citamon, and Grand Bayou (Subsegment 020101) - Upper Barataria Basin - a revision of the Total Daily Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Plan, focused on impairment by dissolved oxygen, is planned for the next cycle, with a new TMDL plan focused on f***l coliform impairment. These watersheds are being prioritized under the Clean Water Act New Vision Program (p. 12-13)

The finalization of the TMDL Plan for watersheds in the Upper Terrebonne Basin:

Bayou Poydras (120102), Bayou Choctaw (120103), Chamberlin Canal (120105), Bayou Plaquemine (120106), Upper Grand River and Lower Flat River (120107), Intracoastal Waterway (120109), and Bayou Cholpe (120110); all previously listed for impairment by Biochemical Oxygen Demanding Substances. (p. 17)

Join the Bayou Culture Collaborative for our November 14, 2025 gathering of people and organizations focused on preserving Louisiana’s heritage and examining the effects of land loss on local culture.

The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary is a rich hub of biodiversity, history and culture. Bren Haase will introduce participants to the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP), Louisiana's only NEP and one of 28 nationwide. He will share BTNEP's efforts in protecting, restoring, and preserving the estuary's unique places and personalities through science-based and consensus-driven projects and programs.
