Tulipa - The University Lakes Improvement and Preservation Association

Tulipa - The University Lakes Improvement and Preservation Association Our basic goal is to enhance the beauty of University Lakes but we use efforts to improve the city.

We strive to improve and maintain the condition of the shorelines and improve and preserve the lakes in the University Lakes area. We will coordinate our activities with the federal, state, university and city/parish departments while seeking the involvement of various volunteer groups, neighborhood associations, civic associations and corporations. It is our goal to improve the safety, convenience, beauty and health of the lakes.

Today two neighbors chipped in to clear the shoreline on University Lake on E Lakeshore Dr.

Richard and Chip were busy pulling cut trees and brush from an overgrown area along the lakefront. We cleared the shoreline in about 2 1/2 hours

Today we had a mid day, clean up at May Street parking area on University Lake.

5 tires pulled from the lake and 8 bags of trash from the receded lake edge.

We went to grab two tires and instead found 5 tires.

Tonight Mark Garon and I recovered a car bumper from LSU lake. It had been there a few years and with the water level lowered it was reachable.

The catch was it was still to soft to walk out to it. So, the answer was to crawl with two rakes to spread the weight out. It was stuck pretty well but we were able to drag it out of the mud and back to shore.

Too busy surviving to take pictures.

There is a tire stuck if anyone wants to help drag that tire out from the lake at May Street. We have boots and or waders and rakes and rope. It is a two person job. One to do the work and one to call 911 if necessary.

Yesterday a storm blew up and took the top out of a tree on the E Lakeshore Dr. We have reported the danger to RedStick311 and Councilwoman Racca’s office.

Hopefully it can be removed before it crashes down like we had 10 days ago on the lakeshore when the limbs came across the road just missing joggers.

“The perfection of means and the confusion of goals seem -in my opinion-characterize our civilization.” Albert Einstein 1950.

Great ideas of Western Man by Continental Can Corporation series.

I decided that after walking Midnight, having breakfast to learn about Louisiana history, winning a tennis match at Bocage 11-9 in the third set tiebreaker, having lunch with Ed Green and his crew, and rescuing a dresser set from the trash pile with the help with Jason, a former aide to Garrett Graves; I should do something positive “to honor the fallen”.

I went to the Lutheran Cemetery, Baton Rouge to w**d eat around the graves of servicemen in the historic cemetery.

Alas, I was too late. Yolanda Robertson had already purchased American flags and distributed them on all the servicemen’s graves, mowed the cemetery grounds and was busy spraying w**d killer in between the graves.

So, I did what I do each morning. I picked up what little trash there was.

Tonight I plan to go to the Goodwood Library to experience the tribute to “the fallen” by the Baton Rouge Concert Band.

This Saturday April 15, we kicked off Love The Boot two days early. We hsd the shirts, gloves and water. Plus we had saws, w**d eaters, hedgers, and a plan.

We had been planning this event for two months. The weather was perfect: cool, cloudy and only light sprinkles.
