Last Wednesday, 19 volunteers from the Zirking and Schmerling Law firm joined us in Baltimore’s Graceland Park neighborhood to plant 30 new trees! 🌳

Their hard work is helping grow a healthier, greener community while expanding Baltimore’s urban canopy one tree at a time. From digging and mulching to watering and staking, this team showed up ready to make a lasting impact.

Thank you to Zirkin and Schmerling for investing in Baltimore’s neighborhoods and environment through service. We’re grateful for your partnership and dedication to creating greener spaces for residents today and for future generations.

Last week, two of our Neighborhood Forestry Technicians completed the Tree Climbing Academy in Druid Hill Park in partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts and Baltimore Recnparks. A total of 20 participants participated from The 6th Branch, Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, and Bartlett Tree Experts.

Through hands-on training, our foresters learned tree-climbing safety, rope setting and knot-tying techniques, the use of climbing equipment, and industry best practices. From climbing vertically to confidently navigating tree canopies, this experience helped strengthen the skills needed to safely care for Baltimore’s urban forest.

This opportunity is part of our workforce development program, which provides our foresters with exposure to different career pathways in forestry, opportunities to network with industry professionals, and experiences that build new skills.

Yesterday, we made history 🌳🇺🇸

The Baltimore Tree Trust, Baltimore National Heritage Area, Recnparks, and partners from across Maryland came together to plant Baltimore’s very own Liberty Tree in Druid Hill Park.

This Tulip Tree was planted as part of the Maryland Liberty Tree Project—grown from a descendant of Maryland’s original 1775 Liberty Tree in Annapolis. Over the next year, Liberty Trees will take root in all 23 counties and Baltimore City, connecting communities through shared history and living legacy. Visit mdlibertytree.org to learn more about the statewide project.

Come visit Baltimore’s Liberty Tree at the Susquehannock Pavilion. It may be small now, but it’s destined to grow—Tulip Trees can reach heights of over 200 feet!

This initiative is a partnership between the Maryland Center for History and Culture, Preservation Maryland, the Southern Maryland National Heritage Area, and the Maryland Heritage Areas Coalition, with support from the Maryland 250 Commission, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, , The Davey Tree Expert Company, and the Maryland Forestry Foundation.

Tomorrow is Baltimore's Liberty Tree Planting. It's finally here!

We’re excited to be part of the next chapter of the Maryland Liberty Tree Project! 🌳 Join the Baltimore Tree Trust and our partners as we plant a descendant tulip tree in Druid Hill Park—continuing the legacy of Maryland’s historic Liberty Trees and preserving our history. The event is Thursday, May 14th, at 1pm in Druid Hill Park's Susquehannock Pavilion.

This free, family-friendly event is open to the public, and we’d love to see you there. Come learn, connect, and help grow Baltimore’s urban canopy.

In partnership with Maryland 250 Commission, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Center for History and Culture, Baltimore National Heritage Area, Baltimore Recnparks, and Southern Maryland National Heritage Area

A huge thank you to the team for joining us today in Graceland Park!

Eight team members rolled up their sleeves and helped plant 24 new trees as part of our larger neighborhood planting project. Together, we added a beautiful mix of trees such as redbuds, scarlet oaks, and hornbeams that will help grow a healthier, greener Baltimore for years to come.

Corporate volunteer days like this make a lasting impact on our neighborhoods and urban canopy. Thank you for spending the day with us and helping put more trees in the ground!
