Congratulations to seven of our Neighborhood Forestry Technicians and our Forestry Director for completing a three-day training with the National Saw Academy!

Thanks to funding from the Chesapeake Bay Trust, our team earned National Saw Academy Sawyer Certification-A, gaining valuable skills in mature tree care and safe chainsaw operation.

This training strengthens our ability to maintain our nursery, care for trees throughout their life cycle, and expand career pathways for our Neighborhood Foresters by exposing them to opportunities in mature-tree care. These investments help grow the next generation of urban forestry professionals!

💧Summer tree care season is here!

To help our 6,000+ warranty trees survive Maryland's drought conditions, we've upgraded five trucks in our fleet with 425-gallon water tanks, larger Honda water pumps, and updated fittings to help our crews work more efficiently in the field.
Each truck can water up to 100 trees per day, delivering the care young trees need to thrive through the summer heat.

🎥 Watch Tree Care Manager Tyler Lewis explain how our updated watering system is helping us protect Baltimore's growing urban forest.

These trees will provide cleaner air, cooler neighborhoods, stormwater management, wildlife habitat, and healthier communities for generations to come. Every tree planted today is an investment in a greener, more resilient Baltimore tomorrow.

This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support of our volunteers, community partners, residents, funders, and supporters who joined us every step of the way.

Whether you planted a tree, watered a young sapling, sponsored our work, or helped spread the word—thank you. Your commitment is helping grow Baltimore's urban forest and creating lasting environmental and community impact.

Here's to 1,053 new reasons to celebrate and many more trees to come! 💚

The Baltimore Tree Trust team picked the Blackgum for Baltimore’s Official City Tree!

Native to Maryland, the Blackgum (Nyssa sylvatica) is known for its brilliant red fall color, supports native bees and pollinators, and provides food for songbirds and other wildlife.

Maryland is now under a drought disaster designation, and much of the Baltimore region remains under drought warnings and voluntary water conservation measures. Recent years have brought increasingly frequent and prolonged drought conditions to our region, creating new challenges for Baltimore’s urban forest.

For newly planted trees, summer drought can be the difference between thriving and struggling to survive.

As Baltimore Tree Trust transitions from spring planting season into summer tree care, our work shifts from putting trees in the ground to keeping them alive. Every day, our forestry crews head out with water tanks mounted on our trucks, watering up to 100 trees per crew. Together, we can provide life-saving water to 600+ young trees each day.

These young trees are an investment in cooler neighborhoods, cleaner air, reduced stormwater runoff, and a greener Baltimore. But they need consistent care during their first few years to become the healthy canopy trees our city depends on.

This summer, while many of us are seeking shade, our crews will be working to grow it.
