Love, commitment, and a little Vegas magic! 💍 ✨

More than 150 couples (including Drew Furedi, TFA Baltimore '93 alum and his wife, Naya Bloom, TFA Washington D.C. '94 alum) who found love through Teach For America renewed their vows in Las Vegas in a ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator, celebrating TFA’s 35th anniversary in unforgettable style. ❤️ 🎤

As one participant shared, there’s something beautiful about doing meaningful work for decades alongside someone you love. 🥹 💕

TFA Baltimore alumni and partners are coming together once again to collaborate on early childhood education, with special guest Aneesh Sohoni, CEO of Teach For America, and expert panelists including Sarah Neville-Morgan, Shamoyia Gardiner, and Dr. Kayon DePina.

This interactive evening will explore strategies to double the number of children who are ready for Kindergarten by 2030. You’ll have a chance to participate in small groups to provide feedback and support to practitioners who are leading this work in Maryland.

We are still recovering from all the excitement from the 35th Anniversary Summit in Las Vegas!

Over 150 Baltimore alumni, corps members, board members, and partners gathered together. From attending a panel featuring Maryland’s own State Superintendent, Dr. Carey Wright, to enjoying music by artists like Ms. Lauryn Hill and Common, to regrounding in our mission, alumni said the weekend was unforgettable.

We also had several Baltimore-based alumni leading and presenting at conference sessions, including Sarah McLean (Baltimore ‘02), who gave a TFA Talk called Stronger Together: The Power of Partnership; and Shamoyia Gardiner (Jacksonville ‘14) and Ashia Caraway (Kansas City ‘18), who spoke on a LEE panel called Black Women Governing with Hope.

Another highlight was the Alumni Honors Ceremony, where all three honors had a connection to Baltimore:

- Daniel J. Jones (Baltimore '98) won the James W. Foley Moral Courage Honor.
- Fareeha Waheed (Baltimore '14) won the Layla Avila Educator Leadership and Systems Impact Honor.
- The third honor was named after Omari Todd (Baltimore ‘00), former Executive Director of Teach For America Baltimore.

📣 Manis Canning & Associates is now accepting applications for an intern to join their team during the 2027 Maryland General Assembly Session in Annapolis!

This is a hands-on opportunity to gain firsthand experience in Maryland government, public policy, and the legislative process while working alongside MCA’s government affairs team.

The intern will:

🏛️ Attend bill and budget hearings

📝 Help prepare testimony and hearing materials

🔎 Research and track legislation

📅 Maintain legislative calendars

📣 Contribute to MCA’s newsletter and communications efforts

🤝 Support the lobbying team throughout the fast-paced legislative session

Where: Downtown Annapolis, with time in the MCA office and around the State House complex
When: Early January–mid-April 2027
Commitment: At least 20 hours/week; Tuesday–Thursday preferred
Compensation: Stipend comparable to the Maryland General Assembly’s internship program

📢 The Career Center is excited to launch a new university partnership with The Broad Center at Yale School of Management (SOM), which offers tuition-free master's and fellowship programs for urban public education leaders!

They are seeking strong candidates for the Master's in Public Education Management, with applications for the 2027cycle due October 27th.

The master's program is designed using a hybrid model for mid-career professionals working in large, urban public school systems in the United States. It is offered in five in-person residence weeks on the Yale SOM campus, plus monthly virtual sessions

- Have 5+ years of professional experience
- Work in district, charter network, or state education agency leadership roles
- Support multiple schools through a central or network office role
