Happy Thanksgiving!

11/13/2025

Access to parks, trails, and green spaces isn’t a luxury — it’s a right. Whether you walk, bike, roll, or take the bus, everyone deserves the chance to enjoy the calm, beauty, and healing that nature provides.
When we make natural spaces more accessible — through better transit connections, safe trails, and inclusive design — we’re not just opening paths through forests; we’re opening doors for community, health, and belonging.
Let’s work together to make sure that everyone can experience the joy of the outdoors. 💚
This is a Sierra Club Greater Baltimore Group event that I helped create. It is sponsored by Heavy Seas Brewery and Atwater's and there is a light lunch provided.

Register today for our September 4th Smart Growth Happy Hour.

https://tinyurl.com/5bcuk9df

We’re excited to invite you to a casual happy hour gathering of Smart Growth and transportation advocates to connect, unwind, and experience firsthand what a walkable community near public transit looks and feels like.

Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is higher-density development located near mass transit or major job centers. These communities are designed to be walkable, vibrant, and offer a mix of amenities—all while reducing car dependence. As we look for meaningful ways to address the climate crisis, walkable and bikeable communities near transit is one strategy that helps us reduce emissions while creating more livable, connected neighborhoods.

We’ll have light appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages available, and you’re welcome to purchase a beer or cocktail on your own tab. This is mostly an experiential event—a chance to soak in the vibrancy of walkable communities near transit, connect with fellow advocates, hear a few brief remarks, and conclude with a 30-minute walking tour highlighting the development’s features.

We hope you’ll join us and be part of this conversation—by simply experiencing what smart growth can look like in action.

Paul Dongarra our outings co-chair, treasurer and Nominations chair, headed out to his local Good Trouble rally to represent our group. Since there were so many people with sign, he focused on picking up trash and kept about 50 lbs for getting to our local waterways. It was nice to see so many environmental legislators there as well. Sheila Ruth, District 44B Delegate and Senator Ben Brooks.

What do members of our executive committee get up to on the weekend? Well Paul Dongarra grabbed his trash picker, and headed up to Liberty Road to work with Speaker Adrienne Jones to spruce up that commercial corridor. The effort was part of our responsibilities to engage with elected official about important environmental matters. In this case we wanted to lift up the “Bottle Bill,” which will greatly reduce plastic waste, fiscally benefit municipalities, and generally encourage the ethic of putting trash in its place. Next year, lets get this done.https://www.sierraclub.org/sites/default/files/2024-10/md-needs-a-bottle-bill-2024-10.pdf
