What can we learn about supporting transition-age youth before they experience homelessness?

Valerie Hallam, THN board member and Director of Systems Advancement at the Texas Alliance of Child and Family Services, shares key findings from her study involving more than 200 young adults and 120 staff across Texas focused on barriers facing youth aging out of foster care.

The analysis highlights critical gaps in housing, documentation, life skills support, and long-term stability. It also points toward solutions such as expanded housing support, earlier intervention, and youth-led systems change.

More than 80 people joined THN Chief Development Officer at the ’s Spring 2026 Conference for a session on designing impact reports that inspire donor support.

The presentation explored how nonprofits can create effective impact reports, distill key outcomes into accessible one-page snapshots, and use both tools to communicate their mission with clarity, confidence and stronger donor connection.

Alexandra will present the session again at THN’s 2026 Texas Conference on Ending Homelessness. Sept. 23–25, 2026 at the Houston Marriott Westchase

When families face a housing crisis, timing matters.

Through THN’s Housing Solutions Innovation Fund, local organizations across Texas are using flexible funding to respond quickly with support like rent assistance, utilities and past-due payments, helping families avoid homelessness and/ or exit homelessness faster.

As of May 11, participating organizations have already helped stabilize:

- 30 families
- 63 children
- 102 Texans total

And this is only early data from 3 of the 6 participating organizations. We expect the impact to continue growing throughout the year!

Stay tuned for more updates from our Housing Solutions initiatives.
