Friendships take many forms, but a common thread throughout is seeing, caring, and responding to the needs of those around us. Do you recall the story of the four men who carried their paralyzed friend to Jesus? These men didn’t have the resources to heal their friend, but they knew someone who could.
We recently received a nomination for Sonia, a woman who had been without transportation for quite some time. An organization in our area came alongside her several years ago, began the mentoring process, and helped her learn new skills that would enable her to have a brighter future. But what they couldn’t give her was a car. Having transportation to her new job, the freedom to go the store when needed, to pick up prescriptions, and to visit family, all of this would afford her a sense of independence she had not experienced in several years.
A church member was ready to part with her older model vehicle and was willing to sell it to Sonia for $1,000. Unfortunately, that was out of Sonia’s reach, but a friend, who knew of Burden Share, brought Sonia’s situation to our attention. Because Sonia had a friend who saw the need, and because Burden Share has friends like you who are willing to give, Sonia now has the means to drive to her new job and a new sense of freedom.
