The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas breaks the cycle of intergenerational poverty through holistic literacy services. Low literacy impacts every facet of social life. When adults learn how to read, write, do basic math, improve their English skills, and learn how to use computers, they gain the power to lift themselves out of poverty, find sustainable employment, and help their children succeed in school. At the Literacy Coalition, we believe everyone should have the tools they need to reach their full potential and have the opportunity to thrive. Our services and partnerships create a bridge to opportunity through Adult Education, Career Development Education, and Family Education. Our vision is to create a Central Texas community that is 100% literate, employable, and self-sufficient. Literacy is opportunity!

Last week, Literacy Coalition’s CEO had the honor of traveling to Washington, D.C., to participate in Naftae’s Flood the Hill! 🏛️💙

Adult education transforms lives, is essential to our workforce, and deserves more attention and funding. Those are not just words we say at Literacy Coalition. They are the message we carried into every conversation on Capitol Hill last week.

Workforce development starts with adult education. When adults have the literacy and career skills they need, they show up stronger for employers, for their families, and for their communities. The data backs it up. Our students prove it every single day.

Thank you to NaftaeFTAE for the opportunity to advocate for the adults we serve and the millions across this country still working toward the skills that will change their lives.

Adult education transforms lives, and at the heart of every transformation is literacy. 🎓

This week is Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, and Literacy Coalition set out to understand exactly how that transformation happens. After talking with our students, we paired their experiences with research to uncover that literacy isn't just one skill.

"What does it mean to be literate in 2026? 🤔

We're still digging, and this week we found the answer.
Literacy is achieved with Career Literacy. 💼

Think about the last time you felt stuck at work. Passed over for a promotion. Stayed in a role long past the point it was serving you. That is not just an employment problem. That is a career literacy problem.

A job is the ability to earn an income. A career is a journey of growth. Both matter, but they are not the same thing. Confusing them is one of the most common ways adults get stuck. Career literacy is the final piece of the puzzle.

Career literacy is the final piece of the puzzle, bringing all six skills together: reading, writing, numeracy, digital, financial, and health literacy. Together, they don't just open doors. They keep them open.

As Literacy Coalition continues its quest for answers, we build on reading, writing, numeracy, digital, and financial literacy with Health Literacy.

Literacy deepens with health literacy… 🏥

You're sitting in a doctor's office. Your appointment ends in fifteen minutes. You nod, take the papers, walk out, and in the parking lot, you realize you're not entirely sure what you're supposed to do next.

Sound familiar? Nearly 9 out of 10 adults in the U.S. struggle with health literacy. Not one in ten. Nine out of ten.

Kylie came in ready to work and never stopped. Social media, graphic design, writing, editing, and event support. she did it all beautifully. She brought creativity, dedication, and the best attitude to everything she touched.

We’re not too sad because we get to celebrate her NEXT chapter! She is heading off to an exciting new role, and we are so proud of you! 🎉
